'Observe and Report': Who is your top scene stealer?

Categories: Snap Judgment

Collettewolfe_l By now, several hundred thousand fans have checked out the latest mall-cop comedy, Observe and Report. And while most of you probably are still remarking at the similarities between Seth Rogen’s bipolar hero and Travis Bickle, or shuddering at the thought of that naked guy parading his bits around the mall, my strongest memories of the film involve two of Rogen’s leading ladies…and I’m not talking about the hilarious Anna Faris. To me the two MVPs of O&R are Celia Weston, who brings equal parts bawdy humor and real emotion to her performance as Rogen’s oft-toasted mom; and Collette Wolfe (pictured), who plays the adorable donut-shop cashier nursing a busted leg and a crush on Rogen. Wolfe, who’s the real-life love of the film’s director, Jody Hill, has a bit of a stock role — the misfit who turns out to be a hottie when she literally lets her hair down — but with her ultra-expressive features and terrific timing, she made me feel like I was watching a duckling-to-swan transformation for the first time.

For those of you who saw O&R last night, who was your favorite scene-stealer? Patton Oswalt as Wolfe’s temperamental boss? Aziz Ansari as Rogen’s mall nemesis, Saddamn? Or Crash costar Michael Peña as Rogen’s wingman with a secret?

Hope I’m not spoiling this for anyone, but Ronnie’s scene with Danny McBride as a crackhead, and the swift justice Ronnie brings to the Crossroads, funny. So is the mob of cops trying to remove Ronnie from the mall, his flashlight a shinning bludgeon of justice. Queen’s music was never used so appropriately.

Aziz. Saw this at SXSW and Hill gave full credit to Aziz and the Chick-fil-a line, which was awesome. Michael Pena as Dennis was amazing too! That lisp was hilarious!

the movie was (thank Satan) better than I feared, but I don’t know, I may be getting Jude Apatow and Co fatigue. The comedy that needs to be made and pronto is “Roller Town”

Celia Weston and Aziz Ansari. Hands down. And the flashers junk.

Aziz was awesome. The Chick-Fil-A line was one of the few bits that made me outwardly laugh (not saying that this movie wasn’t funny, I actually enjoyed it a bit more that Foot Fist Way, I’m just not usually someone to laugh out loud at movies.)
And speaking of FFW, I kept trying to figure out why Collette Wolfe looked so familiar. Her emotion in the scene where she starts crying about her boss picking on her was strong enough that the next scene of Rogen storming down the hall to the kitchen got cheers in the theater. Great actress.

you’re an idiot comparing his character to Travis Bickle like every other second rate blogger. Just b/c the director thinks something does not mean it is true. Have you ever seen Taxi Driver and watched it without the ironic sensibilities that have strangled pop culture in the last ten years? you’d realize how alienating Bickle and his experiences are. Good job being mediocre. Will a blog ever impact the world? I bet you twitter.

You’re expendable. If one of you goes down, I got a backup.

It was like Top Gun for bipolar people. Brilliant.

It’s pretty awesome reading the fake-blog posts originating at the Time-Warner Megaplex. You can see the fingerprints of staff mettings and expensive consultants all over them. Humans don’t write like this. You guys are doomed.

I think wolfe was very cute and believable in her role. So I agree with the blog.

As they say at Aint It Cool — PLANT. Because, trust me, no sane person who saw this movie would *ever* want to talk, or think, about it ever again. If you guys wanted to make money, you should have offered brain bleach for everybody who saw the crappy thing; you’d get customers.

This is unquestionably the WORST movie to have ever been made. I would have rather had surgery done without receiving pain medication. I feel as though I am more stupid for having seen this absolute wreck of a movie. There was ZERO funny parts. I was terrible. If I can save ONE person from seeing this movie by writing this, I feel vindicated for having wasted my money and more importantly my time. WORST MOVIE EVER MADE. I now HATE Seth no talent Rogan as a result of this garbage heap. MUST MISS.
