Last night, Comedy Central premiered its new fantasy comedy series, Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, but despite an aggressive ad campaign, I can’t imagine its prospects are too bright. The show’s premise had promise — It seemed to resemble a goofier The Princess Bride—but its execution left plenty to be desired. The series’ chancellor villain — played by Matt Lucas — came off as Dr. Evil light, and I have a hard time getting behind a program whose only female character is a scantily clad woman that sleeps with her enemies to fend them off instead of opening up a can of whoop-ass. (And my feminist rage-o-meter officially exploded off the charts during the episode’s pagan gang-bang. See below for clip). That being said, I did laugh at some of its juvenile jokes—yes, including Horst Draper, lord help me—and I find Sean Maguire to be a charming leading man worthy of a vehicle far superior to this one (think of him as a Ryan Reynolds in training). And I can’t help but love me a John Rhys-Davies cameo.
What did you think of the show, PopWatchers? Was it stupid, or silly fun? Here’s my official review, which appeared in EW last week: Warrior Kröd aims to defeat an evil chancellor with his band ofmisfits: a pagan girlfriend, an inept sorcerer, a dim-witted slave, andhis mentor’s male lover. The fantasy spoof’s gags are infantile, but aJohn Rhys-Davies cameo brings class to a show that boasts a runningjoke about bestiality.

i stopped watching after 30 minutes
Absolutely LOVED it. Unfortunately, I think you may be right; that it’s prospect probably aren’t too bright. But I hope it makes it. I will watch for it on the Comedy Central schedule and schedule reminders for myself to watch. Hysterical.
I was amused…but like you, really really bothered by the portrayal of the female character. They try to paint it as her owning her sexuality and Krod having too many hang-ups, but his CONSTANT slut-shaming, and the fact that her sexuality is really about satisfying male fantasies, was a huge annoyance (and the gay guy! What a ridiculous stereotype) That said…I appreciated the silliness and the modern sensibility, so I dunno, I’ll think about watching it…
This lightweight comedy-fantasy is nothing, alas, to write home about… but at least it’s an alternative to the endless barrage of Reality Television that fills the major networks’ schedules.
What I want to know is, how the heck did they come up with that name? Seriously.
If you don’t like this female character, then I doubt you’d like Amy’s role in Futurama: Bender’s Game.
I thought it was hilarious. The sexuality was funny and not over the top. Even though it’s derivative of Monty Python and lampoons a ton of crappy series, it kept my attention and more importantly kept me laughing.
Being an ex pat I totally got it all, I laughed so much through out the show, but had to keep stopping to explain some of the jokes to our teenage daughter, I hope it lasts, I’m so tired of the endless unfunny US comedies!!!
At first, I disliked the show. After about 20 minutes of watching it I said to myself, “this will be canceled in 2 weeks.” Unfourtunatly, while I think this may still be true, I really was drawn to it. I was about to shut it off when I decided I would give it 10 more minutes. I am so happy I did. The show is more entertaining than funny, but it also is interesting. I felt like the female was unbelievably hot and a little bit comical. The show really catches my attention for some reasons I am not sure about, but I think you guys getting mad about the way the girl was portrayed, should grow up. It is still a comedy central show so I cannot imagine your reaction to some of the South Park episodes that air. It is all in good humor, and the time setting of the show is also attracting to me. IDK, just my 2 cents. Anyways, does anyone know the girls name, cause I think I’m in love! Hahah
Not particularly funny. I had desperately hoped it would be. I still hope that it might GET funnyer.
I have not seen good fantasy comedy on TV since 1983 with Wizards & Warriors. That was a funny show, but well before it’s time.
The hot chick either needs to be a lot smarter or a lot dumber than Krod. Either one would work to comic interchange between her and the others.
I would like to see the Wizard do something. Maybe he sucks so bad it is always the wrong thing, but him pretending to know magic, but not having ANY will get old fast. I think even a bag of rocks could tell he useless. If he were a better comedian he might have at least been funny and useless, but as it stands he was just one.

I think most of you missed the point. It is supposed to be a spoof of all the self important melodramatic hero movies. All of those movies have several things in common. First, the hero is always unrealistically huge and muscular, and always solemnly prepared to accept his destiny. Krod is a fairly average guy that keeps suggesting they give it to somebody else. Again, the misguided or incompetent sorcerer is in most of those movies, and can you see a homosexual male character lasting more than ten minutes in Conan or Scorpion King? As for the female, grow up and notice what feminism has been fighting for all these years. Men have always had the choice to express their sexuality just about any way they pleased. Now when confronted by a female that is taking charge of her body and who gets to have it (even if she isn’t picky)you have a fit because you can’t get your mind out of the good girls don’t bad girls are victims mentality.
So “Rosa” clearly works for the show or network…
Sean Maguire – especially Sean Maguire shirtless – is stupid HOT.
for the person who wanted to know…
Im not sure about Mandoon…
but seriously, dude? You didn’t notice that Krod is DORK backwards…
…ur a real genius. lol.
OMG… I have to post again…
The way the girl is portrayed is totally for comedy. Take a f****** joke.
Im a girl and not in the least bit offended. Geez, have you ever looked inside of Penthouse or Playboy… oh, dear God, how they objectify women… I’m sure those too magazines hardly sell at all… Surely, society’s men are much more classy than to look at attractive women for any sexual or comical purposes.
Let me explain my sarcasm. Society is changing all the time. Promiscuity isn’t as frowned upon as it once was. People are more open-minded now…
Geez, I can only imagine how you people react to south park, robot chicken, or moral orel. I can only imagine how you must be offended by anything considered socially immoral, like smoking pot…
I thought Krod Mandoon was absolutely great!
Stop taking everything so personal.
When we make jokes about guys, they don’t whine and call us misogynists and sexists. They don’t take it to heart… Take it lightly.
