Since I have not seen the movie yet,….I am not about to give it a thumbs up or thumbs down based on a few clips or the color/size of the nacelles not being like the original. I am encouraged by the good reviews,…and also, as one that dislikes time based stories most of the time, I was a bit placated after reading the prequel ST comic books that came out recently (if you have not read these comics…do…not only do they help meld the original series/movies together with the new movie….but as a bonus you get to find out what has happened to some of your favorite characters after the last movie). I truly hope that after Cloverfield,…that the J.J. gets it right and has the heart and relationship between the characters set as the iconic part of the movie, that we can all grab on to and enjoy (for years to come).
Anyone else around here think Harry Knowles the red-headed basement dwelling slug should just shut the hell up?

I saw the movie last night as I know someone that worked on the production of this movie. I have always loved Star Trek although I won’t go so far as to say that I would attend one of the conventions. Overall the movie was good, I would give it a 8 out of 10. I didn’t walk out like most people saying omg this was a great movie. It was good and I think they will do better with the second. The actors really studied who they were playing, Doc McCoy, Kirk etc. Spock stole the movie. The beginning of the movie was annoying. I won’t go into a lot of detail because I don’t want to give the movie away. JJ made a distinct effort to distance the movie from the traditional Star Trek movies and I can understand he wants a new audience, however I don’t think I would have been so vocal in the press about it. He did however include the main characters mannerisms and who they were, at the end it you felt like you were at a Star Trek movie. Its a good effort, its new & shiny not Wrath of Khan though
