'Harry Potter' star Rupert Grint has sex, does drugs, and makes me hide under my desk

When Daniel Radcliffe chose to doff his clothes to show the world he was more than just Harry Potter, at least he did it starring in one of the most well-regarded plays of the last 40 years — you know, keep it classy. Judging from the trailer for Rupert Grint’s latest non-Potter project Cherrybomb, however, our beloved Ron Weasley has decided to launch his edgy period with a movie a fair shade more in-your-face. Check out the (kinda NSFW) clip below and see for yourself…if you can see, that is, while peeking through your fingers.

Brawling? Doing blow? Having the sexual relations? Oh Rupe — Rupie? Rupers? Rupunzel? — did you really have to shed your Potter shackles by taking on a movie that looks like a second-rate mash-up of a Bret Easton Ellis novel and the British teen soap Skins? What say you, PopWatchers — are you as embarassingly intrigued horrified as I am?

That Ron Weasley — always in Harry Potter’s shadow.

Is it just me, or does Grint look like a long lost Culkin brother in this ad?

Can’t we be grownups here? Rupert Grint is an actor. He plays fictional characters. Ron Weasley is a character. This new guy is a character. Neither one is the real Rupert Grint. Good grief.

No even a little horrified. It looks like a very interesting project.

    i thought it looked cool

Why do I get the feeling if this was Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson, EW would be all about how cool this looks? This guy’s a better actor than both of them and never gets any attention, so at least he’s getting some now.

I agree with you so much!
I’ve always noticed how his acting out shown so many of the others in Harry Potter, but he was never credited on it.
I just watched this movie, and it’s very intriguing. The way it’s put together is great, and while there were a lot of characters I wasn’t a fan of, I still loved it.
He’s really branching out, and I’m happy for it. Seems like he’ll successfully get out of the Harry Potter movies and move on to do great films, which is hard to do when you’re one of the main characters in such a franchise.

I think it looks dark but not necessarily trashy. Can’t judge a film by its trailer.

no one can be a kid forever, look where attempting that got Michael Jackson…

Seriously EW folks, Rupert Grint is NOT Ron Weasley, get over it. He’s an actor and he’s got the right to choose any role he likes. I saw Cherrybomb at Dublin Film Festival and it’s a great movie.

I think this movie looks really interesting. He was always the best actor among the three leads in Harry Potter. I’m gonna go back and watch the trailer again… WOW! he dazzling in this role.

Rupert is the best actor from the HP trio, and with Cherrybomb he proves that he is not just Ron Weasley. I’m so proud of him! the trailer looks amazing, and I can’t wait for the film!

Doesn’t look bad at all and I’m very glad for him. These brit kids seem to know how to manage their carreer “do other things so you won’t be stuck in the same type of movie till your 35 and look too old to play teens” (happened to SO many on our side of the ocean).

Mmm… long luscious British 4skin down to his knees! ;-) Wanna get me some of that. Hope he’s a “top”.

Please EW, grow up. All the HP stars are grown adults now, and they do amazing projects. Instead of judging from an unofficial trailer, you might want to actually, you know, see the movie. I have, and it’s amazing. There is a lot more to it then this, “Let’s call it a knock off of Skins” or whatever else. Get real people, it’s all been done before. The difference is doing it better. And Cherrybomb does it better. Trust me. And Rupert Grint is amazing.

That’s exactly how I picture Ron Weasley after they defeated Voldemort.
