'Twilight' exclusive: Director Catherine Hardwicke thanks fans for making her 'Director's Notebook' No. 1

She made the movie, she wrote the book, and now Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has a message for all her fans out there: Thanks for helping the movie and the book (and, really, everything else Twilight) hit No. 1! The filmmaker/author just found out that her Twilight: Director’s Notebook will be at the top of Sunday’s New York Times best-seller list, so she wrote a little note and shot a little video to commemorate the occasion. We present both to you, exclusively…

Dear Twilight fans,

I wanted to send out a note of thanks to all of you. I recently found
out that my book, Twilight: Director’s Notebook, will debutat #1 on
this Sunday’s New York Times bestseller list. I am stunned. Throughout
this entire process, from pre-production on the film, to thepremieres,
to my book events, I have always been overwhelmed by the supportthe
Twilight fans have had for me, the movie and now my book. I wantedto
give the fans, as well as aspiring filmmakers, a closer look at howwe
made the movie and I hope you enjoyed entering my world of makingfilms
as much as I have had in being part of the Twilightworld.

Catherine

How cool is Catherine Hardwicke giving a shoutout to all the Twilight fans! She really did a nice job on the movie, though I thought the script really needed a bit more work. Oh, and I love the way she says “bitchin!” in the video.

Catherine seems like such a nice person. I just want to know if the name of her cat (from the Directors Notebook bio) really is, “Black Velvet Luxury Item.” Ha ha. I have a black cat too; they are really plush. :-) Seriously though this was a fun book and she cared so much about making a great and organic movie filled with heart not CG! I’ll miss her. C.H. Why don’t you come back and direct Breaking Dawn, if they will let you…please!

I don’t know what you all been smoking/drinking, but that movie was awful! I was really let down by her work, let’s hope the new director will follow through and do a better job.

The director’s notebook is AWESOME, for those of you who haven’t bought it :)

she’s milking this for all it’s worth and really, she was one of the weaker aspects of the film. not very good direction with a cast that really did need some good guidance, horrid special effects and the script needed work. v. glad she’s moving on.

I am sad to say, but I do agree with ‘welshgirl’. I loved the movie and I did buy a copy of her book and was entertained by it, but there is this constant pang of how much better it could have been with a different screenwriter and different director. After watching my DVD, jeez, I don’t know how many times, I’m starting to see things that just weren’t there and sooooo needed to be as well as things that were there and shouldn’t have been. Tragic, really.

She didn’t write the book…Stephenie Meyer did. The movie left alot to be desired..but it was alright. The actors made it what it was.

i love the movies and the books i read and watch it all the time. but she is not the one who wrote the books. she may have directed the movie but she didn’t write the books. i am not trying to be mean or anything but she needs to back down and let stephenie meyer have at least half of the credit. and i am sayin this out of the random. edward is freaken hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree, I was so disappointed by the movie, and bought the dvd just to add to the twilight collection. I can’t wait for the next three, and I have to say I’m glad Catherine’s gone. I hate how she acts like a little girl.

This article is referring to the “Director’s Notebook” book, when it mentions her writing, not the actual Twilight Saga books. No one, not even Catherine Hardwicke herself, ever claimed that she wrote the original books.

Did anyone actually see this movie??
It was god awful! Poor editing, awkward chemistry, ridiculous special effects, over-acting, and unintentional comedy left me feeling embarrassed for anyone who’s name had anything to do with this train-wreck.
Just because scores of delusional fans inflated the box-office numbers doesn’t make this film anything to be proud of, let alone anything the director should be continuing to milk attention for.
And yes, I’ve read the books. Vampires? Werewolves? Star-crossed lovers and tortured soulmates? Entirely unoriginal and totally over-hyped.
And personally, I wouldn’t want my daughter enamored by a series centered on an entirely uninteresting girl who is apparently worthless and without purpose if she doesn’t have a boy to pine for and obsess over.

I liked the movie and thought she was an okay director. I have not bought her book and don’t plan to, but I am happy that her book is doing so well.
To all the people stating that she did not write the Twilight book, you are 100% right. However, no where in the article does it state that she did. She wrote TWILIGHT: DIRECTOR’S NOTEBOOK (as stated in the article). Maybe if you ACTUALLY READ the article before posting your comment, you would not look so stupid.

you know who hated “Twilight”? These guys: http://www.digitalfuntown.com/videos/163

Bri Guy: I really am wondering about this. If you hate Twilight so much, then why did you read the books and then go see the movie? That does not make any sense to me. I don’t know about you, but if I disliked something as much as you claim that you do, I would not waste my time and money on it.
