New, and possibly misleading, 'Inglourious Basterds' photos

Inglouriousbasterds_lI’ve noticed kids in America grow up reading cartoons about iron mutants from Krypton who get bitten by spiders and so forth. I, however, was raised in the United Kingdom on a diet of comics about World War Two. These were called things like Battle and Action and, I’m not joking, Warlord. To make matters worse (and, by "worse", I mean "better") some of the strips appeared to find inspiration in the violent oeuvres of Sergio Leone and Sam Peckinpah and, more generally, exploitation cinema. All of which meant that I got a big feeling of deja vu when I watched the trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s new, Brad Pitt-starring, WWII epic Inglourious Basterds which, even by QT’s standards, looks like a particularly exploitation flick-ish slice of mayhem ("Each and every man under my command owes me 100 Nazi scalps!"). However, Vanity Fair have just put up a photo gallery of the film’s stars that makes the whole thing look like a much classier venture. "Schindler’s List It Ain’t" screams the portfolio’s headline. But, if you only saw these shots, you might well think that the film was going to be like Spielberg’s much more serious-minded WWII movie.

Anyway, take a butcher’s (that’s cockney rhyming slang: "butcher’s hook"="look". See, you’ve learnt something already today!) and tell us if you agree.

The cockney thing reminded me of Ocean’s 11 – “We’re in Barney.”
    “Barney?”
    “Barney Rubble . . . trouble!”

I really didn’t find them misleading. They look like any photo shoot from fashion magazines, and they aren’t even that serious pictures.
