Alec Baldwin told Hollyscoop.com earlier this week that he has a new 30 Rock guest star in mind: Michelle Obama. Upon hearing this news, my first reaction was "Blurg." I’ve grown tired of the show’s stunt casting since they agreed to help Jerry Seinfeld pump up his Bee Movie in exchange for his gracing their show as a guest. But upon further reflection, I’m nearly lizzing at the possibility of seeing the first lady appear on my favorite comedy. Think about it: Though 30 Rock might have misstepped with some Hollywood guest stars — Seinfeld, Jennifer Aniston — the show has almost always hit a home run with its political guest stars (hello Al Gore!). And Jack’s former awkward position in Homeland Security under Bush (not to mention his co-workers’, after that whole "gay bomb" fiasco) would certainly make for good fodder in an episode starring Obama.
Do you think this is a good idea? Would 30 Rock finally get the ratings it deserves if they nabbed Obama for an episode? And do you agree with Baldwin, who said the first lady would be a better guest star than her hubby?

I would honestly love this so much, I’d want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant. I’ve always loved the guest stars, though. I don’t think they take anything away from the episode. They’re all actors afterall (well, except for Al Gore and Michelle Obama, haha) so acting on TV shows isn’t a crazy idea. Anyway, I seriously doubt it would ever happen in a million years, but it would be fun to see!
This Obama mania is absolutely out of control. He is The President and she is The First Lady. Why must liberals feel the need to make them Hollywood celebrities? God, how I miss President and First Lady Bush.
Mrs. Obama is the CURRENT First Lady of the United States. I find this idea disgusting- another example of our celebrity-driven culture. The country is a mess- let the Obamas alone to do their jobs.
God no!
only if that means she takes her husband with her and leave the presidency behind them before they do any more damage
Hey Adam, I’m a liberal, but I agree with you. They are the President and First Lady, not celebrities. I want the President fixing the economy, and Mrs. Obama supporting him. That’s all they should do. When he’s out of office, they can do whatever they want, but for now, stick to the responsibilities of the White House and the leadership of the American people!
Totally! Besides, didn’t Jack go to college with her and once said he wanted to “wipe that smug smile off Michelle Obama’s face”? Great continuity, and methinks we’ll see some great rivalry between Jack and Michelle.
I think you’re being a but unfair about their stuntcasting, the Seinfeld one sort of sucked but I think they usually do a good job mocking the stunt, much like they do with product placement. The Jennifer Aniston one is a great example, because they also used that episode as an excuse to also reunite most of the cast of Night Court.
I agree with Kate that the political guest stars, or any of those who don’t dominate their episodes, have been better. She would get the show huge ratings, and I think she could be well integrated into an episode even without much screentime. To those who write that Hollywood should be criticized for making politicians celebrities – HELLO? They ARE celebrities. They know it, we know it, and they know we know it. Hollywood certainly knows it. LOL. No one’s saying Michelle will deserve an Emmy for a guest spot, but a cameo appearance or more? It’s a smart move and would totally work on this particular series.
Take it easy, angry people! I don’t really care one way or another about Mrs Obama being on 30 Rock, but I think it’s a bit silly to suggest the first lady must do nothing but ’support’ the prez at all times (what does that even mean?) If you ask me, I would actually have preferred to see more of Laura Bush in the public sphere during the last 8 years.
Also, Cooter Burger was by far the funniest “political guest star” 30 Rock has had. I’d like to see more of him.
Nah… go for some obscure member of the administration, like Rahm Emanuel or something. Now Biden – comedy gold!
Why do you guys have a problem with the “stunt” casting. This is a show that doesn’t take itself seriously, and it’s all about fun and laughs. It would be different if this was some sort of drama, but the way the show is setup, stunt casting is perfect for the show and people should simply enjoy it for what it is.
I loved James Carville and his advice to Twofer and Frank. Do it cajun style!
that would be the best!!! she should definitely do it!
Ugh, please no!
