Donal Logue: We're glad somebody's got a 'Life'

Donallogue_lThey’re famous, they’re fantastic — so why can’t they find a show that sticks? We all know who we’re talking about — those unlucky few actors who, for whatever reason, keep landing on TV series that don’t last. (We’re hugging you, Carla Gugino, Geena Davis, Neal McDonough, and Jason O’Mara.) Fingers crossed, we just might be kicking Donal Logue out of the club.

I know what you’re saying: But he was on Grounded for Life! Yep, and absolutely nobody but you and me paid any attention to that delightfully quirky family sitcom. Since then, Logue’s guested here and there (Monk, Damages), and served as a human Hacky Sack on ABC’s The Knights of Prosperity, which not only had two name changes (from Let’s Rob Mick Jagger and I Want to Rob Jeff Goldblum), it could never find a decent time slot.

But now Logue has Life. As Capt. Tidwell, who joined the precinct this season and promptly started sleeping with his underling, Det. Reese (Sarah Shahi), Logue grounds the occasionally flighty cop drama. He’s a little chunky, unruly, unkempt — basically, he looks way more like a cop than either of our two very pretty leads, Shahi and Damian Lewis. (Do not look at me like that, I love them — I’m just saying!) And his affair with Reese, which looked a tad icky when it first started, now seems genuine and sweet, just enough "awww" with our impalings and beheadings.

Here’s the thing: Life‘s future is by no means guaranteed. You ready for the scary numbers? Last season it was the 70th most popular show on network TV, and this year it’s up against Criminal Minds and American Idol, and you so know what that means. So here’s what I’m thinking: We watch Life. If you missed it last night, try again Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. on NBC. It’s a seriously good show, gives Lewis a reason not to go back to England, and keeps Logue employed — excellent reasons, all.

One of the best shows on TV…I wish there was a Recap column on this show. Damien Lewis is genius. I became a fan after Band of Brothers (best mini-series ever, by the way). I hope that this show stays on for quite a while.

I love “Life”. I think the first season was better than this season, but it still deserves a chance. It should be renewed!

LOVE- LOVE- LOVE- LIFE! And the show has the best soundtrack on tv!

Why would Damien go to England??? He’s an Aussie.
And I’m seriously praying to all of the gods in the multi-verse that they don’t cancel Life this season.
Charlie needs to get over the ex and find a new love, Ted needs to get a life of his own, Reece needs to face her demons.
I’d be super sad to see this show end this season.

I’m really enjoying life and last night’s episode was awesome. I hate getting in to new shows only to have them cancelled on me. I sure hope they don’t cancel this one… give it another season at least.

I loved Grounded for Life, that show was awesome!! Logue was also on ER for a bit.

  • HUGE FAN

I have to say, this show is EXCELLENT. I love the relationships, the underlying story, the acting, the actors and the various surprises the show offers. I feel like I am the kiss of death for shows, I have killed Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, Life on Mars, and many others. I just hope this finds the home it deserves and the backing of a weak reality-show stuffed lineup. I am sick of voting for people to be evicted or stay, I want to be entertained and each and every moment of this show is wholly entertaining and deserves a cherished prime spot! Please keep this show alive, get those people on talk shows and get bloggers talking about it. Let’s save one of the last unique shows on tv. Now THAT is a “call to vote and save” something I can get behind!

I have always loved life from the first show the cast is bangging

Don’t forget, Donal Logue had a recurring role on ER, as Susan’s paramedic boyfriend, husband, and eventual babydaddy Chuck.

Life is so great! We have got to keep it going!!!

Life is the best show on TV, next to Lost. Wednesday nights are my favorite TV nights because they are both on at 9pm. Thank the lord for DVR.

It is interesting. I am by no means a Donal Logue fan. In fact, the only thing I can think of that I enjoyed from him were his Jimmy the Cab Driver spots from MTV. I was ticked off when I found out that he was replacing Robin Weigert, I was seriously ticked. Logue’s first few episodes did nothing to change me mind.
Then something funny happened. I started to like his character. Tidwell became a part of the odd charm that infuses Life and makes more than just a procedural.
How this show is struggling while CSI, CSI, Jr., and CSI Redux thrive just distresses and depresses me.

Love this show. Have since it started. The network was wrong to stick it opposite the godawful American Idol, and the insanely good Criminal Minds and Lost. However, I hope NBC has the brains to renew it. If they cancel it, I have NO reason to watch NBC anymore.

Amen! This show is fantastic, for my money the best cop procedural on TV at the moment.
Kvivik… Damien Lewis is definitely British. Not Aussie.
