'Damages' finale (SPOILER ALERT): Every plot twist unsnarled, not all of them logically

Even though the season 2 finale of Damages was 90 minutes long, I wasn’t sure how they’d resolve everything. Read the full post.

The package has still not been opened. I’m dying the know what it is, too. The videotape was already found at the end of season 1. It was hidden in one of the ugly Statue of Liberty bookends, ironically the one that was used to kill David. It was small enough to be hidden from the killer cops. Tom found the tape, Patty copied the tape onto a CD, and blackmailed Frobisher with it. I admit I didn’t like Ellen in season 1. Too wishy-washy. But this season was a big improvement for the character. Can’t wait for season 3.

Love the show, but agree with all the comments about the finale seeming too rushed. I also had a problem with the Finn stabbing Patty scenario. If you want to kill someone, you don’t just stab him/her in the side twice, rather casually, with an ice pick. You would aim for the heart at least. Also, I agree about the actress playing Ellen. She doesn’t have much range. Plus she scares me whenever she wears a sleeveless dress because she could a poster child for anorexia, her arms are so thin (along with the rest of her). That said, can’t wait until next season. Would love a Patty vs. Claire cage match!

I love the show, but I totally agree with your review – there were just too many details within the show this season to then all of a sudden have everything tied up into a neat little bow in the last 30 mins. I have way way way too many questions. Not in a Soprano’s ‘what happened when the screen went black’ way – more like WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO EVERYTHING… we found out hardly anything this season – all questions from last season were not answered. I will probably watch next season, but it better give me answers.

I am a huge fan of the series. However, I too thought this season there was too much going on. I wasn’t a fan of the finale – thought it was a bit anti-climatic.
Wondering what there really is to have a next season about. Now that Patty really no longer has anyone and Ellen is “gone,” David’s killer is dead, what more is there to do?

Love this show, too – but I agree. WTH?
Didn’t evil detective have an arrest warrant out on Wes? And he’s out just walking around? When did Patty have time to call Tom and Tom’s sister? And what’s the deal with Tom anyway? Will he just do ANYTHING Patty or Ellen says??? Gah! Drives me crazy.
That said, I’m all for more Ted D too. He knows how to act for TV – kind of a controlled squrrely-ness. But not Hurt or Harden. Hurt just bleeds “ACTING” all the time – and always has – and Harden seems to have one setting: Lady Macbeth.
I’m liking Rose Byrne more and maybe next season they’ll keep hiring more of the great, laid-off actors from The Wire!

Loved this show like everyone else but I am willing to give the season’s finale a pass. Sure there were strands that remain to be tied up but that is why Season 3 might be richer for these unravelled strands.
For me the magic of the show is its ability to spellbind within reason, and not try to resolve every nooks and crannies of subplots no matter how crucial they may be. What hooks me is its time-shifting narrative that teases you with future scenes and it/they mean to the present ones that have yet to unfold.
Patty was humanized this season but I am imagining that her saber-tooth sharpness and acumen will be in full force in the next season, and there may be something about her dead daughter, her errant son and husband, and her own troubled childhood.
Can’t wait for the next season.

I think there is enough material for more twists and turns in Season 3. Remember when Patty says that Ellen will be back, and that Ellen said she had an offer at David’s grave, that she is considering taking? I bet Patty has somehow made an offer to Ellen without Ellen knowing Patty is behind the offer.
I think that Patty will try and find out who the person was that saved her in the elevator, and will find out that Wes is Ellen’s lover, and will somehow have Ellen find out that Wes is a Murderer with a crininal history.
Ellen’s sister was shown in the last episode and I am wondering if she will have a connection in Season 3.
And what about Claire? I see a future with her somewhere also.
Michael is not done with mother Patty.
Uncle Pete’s wife will also have more to reveal next season.
There are endless possiblilites. Let us not forget Forbisher. Let see what developes with him
    Can’t wait for Season 3!

Did Ellen ever open the gist from the dead fiance? The one with the pink wrapping paper?

Love Glenn CLose – Ms. Patty Hewes is a bomb waiting to explode. I love this show but I thought season 2 was too much too soon. It’s like they thought they weren’t coming back for season 3 and decided to throw it all in there. I love the scenese with Patty and her son. I liked how she just handed him over to Jill…lol I can’t wait til next season – but I hate that Patty admitted to Ellen that she tried to kill her. I found myself getting annoyed with Ellen and rooting for Patty.

I was a bit irked about the whole William Hurt guilt confession – especially since we now know he didn’t actually kill his wife. Showing the energy czar being arrested for environmental pollution was not nearly as satisfying as the murder and market manipulation he seemingly got away with. Or maybe those additional charges will come back to haunt us all next season.

I looove Damages. By far the best drama on tv right now, IPO. The writing is excellent, and the storyline keeps you hangind on the edge of your seat! I do agree with most of the comments here; Season 1 was by far the best. Liked the Frobisher storyline much better. You can’t expect to have all of your questions answered, unless it’s the end of the series. We’re only coming up on Season 3. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen. Will Ellen be able to even work with Patty again? I doubt it. Maybe they’ll bring a new young actress on board for her to screw over. LOL.

This show is mostly about messing with your head, and I found myself trying (in vain it turns out) to remember what the deal was with Frobisher last season. I’m sure I’ll have even less success remembering this season. That said, the production values and acting are superior and I’ll probably watch again just for that.

Could someone tell me one thing – it was said, that Pell was behind the FBI investigation, but the investigation began couple of months before the whole UNR thing. So what were Pell’s motives to get rid of Patty? Was it mentioned in any episode?

But why didn’t Patty seek immediate help after she got stabbed? She could have framed Ellen for her injury but that was not the case…

I think the most consistent part of Season 2 was Patty’s character. She is a woman who looks and acts a lot like the monsters she tries to protect everyone else from. She crossed the line with Fisk and then went even further to protect herself from Ellen in Season 1. But it seemed that she showed genuine remorse for trying to have Ellen killed. When she turns around and protects Ellen it seems like she is making amends–again revealing that for all her darkness she is a woman with a conscience. What remains to be seen is whether she actually had Uncle Pete killed. By the end of Season 2 they had it looking like she didn’t think twice about kneecapping her enemies. Another question is–are she and Ellen even now or could they possibly move towards real trust in one another? We need to know what happened to Uncle Pete.
