Bruce Springsteen: Could he be next for a 3-D concert film?

When director Bruce Hendricks told MTV that he’d like to follow up his 3-D Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers concert films with a similar Bruce Springsteen flick, he was just thinking out loud — working on a dream, if you will. For the record, Springsteen’s camp declined to comment when I asked if he would ever be interested in such a project. But hey, that’s no reason not to think about how cool this hypothetical movie would be!

If the Boss ever did decide to make a 3-D concert film, I would be buying my tickets faster than you can say Nebraska. As most anyone who’s seen the E Street Band in person, or even on TV at the Super Bowl, can attest, they put on a show like no other. It’s practically a religious experience. I don’t think there’s any way a strip of projected celluloid could do justice to the experience of witnessing Bruce play without using all three dimensions — hell, they might have to look into manufacturing some 4-D or 5-D glasses to truly capture the magic.

In all seriousness, Bruce has enough dedicated fans out there that I bet this theoretical movie could bring in some serious box office coin. Maybe it would even be enough to single-handedly revive the concert-film genre…or not, considering how that JoBros movie did. You tell me: If the Boss showed up on a 3-D screen near you, would you not be tempted to put those special specs back on? How about if the movie was guaranteed to re-create his infamous crotch-into-camera slam from the Super Bowl (embedded below to refresh your memory) in lifelike 3-D?

'The Daily Show': Ready for tonight's Jon Stewart-Jim Cramer smackdown?

CNBC host Jim Cramer is finally going on The Daily Show tonight, after about a week of back-and-forth between Jon Stewart and the stock market pundit (which all started with Stewart’s smackdown of CNBC last week).Things have escalated since the original scathing series of clips, though:

I can’t tell if I’m excited to see how this plays out, or if I wish they’d keep it going and have TDS rip on Cramer et al for months and months. This stuff is comic gold! Plus, it’s the only time I get to laugh at the economy, which is basically…oh, let’s say it’s in the same club as the hotdogs, dogfood, and chess sets. Cramer was on Martha Stewart’s show today, where he gamely tried to lower expectations. Martha warned him that Jon is "fast as lightning," and Cramer said that he himself is "slow as molasses." Aaawwww. Cramer then said that the Daily Show host is his "idol," which has made this whole saga painful. Again, aaaaw.

Okay, PopWatch pundits, whom are you placing your bets on tonight: Jon or Jim? Or do you stay far, far away from all things shouty and on cable?

Site of the day: Hulu celebrates first anniversary

It’s hard to believe that we’ve only been procrastinating at work, staying up too late, and wasting our weekends away with Hulu.com for just one year. But today, March 12, marks the site’s first anniversary. As it celebrates Fan Appreciation Week with the results of the user-voted Hulu Awards and lists of fun stats (find out the 10 most-searched shows on Hulu and the 10 most searched shows NOT on Hulu — suckas! — after the jump), let’s fete the site by saying thanks for one thing it’s done to make our lives better over the last 365 days.

I’ll start. I’m grateful that when I was going through my Gale Harold phase, it had all episodes of his short-lived Fox series Vanished.

'Iron Man 2' adds Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson: Even more excited now?

Categories: Deals, Movies, Sexytimes

Johannssonrourke_lThe amount of talent Marvel has assembled for Iron Man 2 is pretty impressive. You have actor/writer Justin Theroux penning the script, multihyphenate Jon Favreau behind the camera, and A-list talent like Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Samuel L. Jackson reprising their roles from the stupendously awesome original (with Don Cheadle stepping in for Terrence Howard, to boot). Then, then, you add Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke as villains and you have the formula for one hell of a sequel. And let’s be serious: Rourke was born to play a villain in a superhero flick. Just look at that face! It was meant to be.

To me, there seems to be only one weak link: the just-confirmed Scarlett Johansson. Sure, she’s a fine actress given the right role and is guaranteed to look sultry in a skintight leathery costume. But her character, Black Widow, is a Russian spy. That’s right, Russian. The thought of Johansson attempting a Russian accent sends chills down my spine, PopWatchers, and not in a good way. It certainly doesn’t do Johnasson any favors that we’ve been imagining Emily Blunt in the role for quite some time (who had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts). Blunt surely would’ve killed and could have used the profile boost. But, I’ll look at this from a glass-half-full perspective: While Johansson has floundered in big-budget blockbusters (The Spirit or The Island, anyone?) in the past, this plum role is her chance to shine.

Regardless, are you as jazzed for Iron Man 2 as I am? Is Johnasson a good choice to play Black Widow? And can you believe we have to wait until May 7 of 2010 to see it?

David Boreanaz answers your 'Bones' questions (or has a good time skirting them)

Categories: Bones, Television

Bonesboreanaz_lIf you think Seeley Booth, David Boreanaz’s character on Bones, has been goofy this season, you should sit down with the actor after he’s been doing press all day and be his last interview — which we were yesterday. We had more than 200 reader questions submitted for Boreanaz, who also directs tonight’s episode, "The Bones That Foam" (Fox, 8 p.m. ET). Of course, he didn’t have time to answer all of them. But we got in as many as we could before we had to part ways. (NOTE: If you want an actor to give you spoilers on his show, which many of you did, you need him to be drinking something stronger than a Sprite. Sorry!)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First of all, it’s so funny that you just let it slip that you and your wife are expecting a second child on Regis & Kelly, because we had a number of readers ask if you hoped to add to your family [which includes six-year-old son Jaden]. N2SEELEYBOOTH went as far as to say that you need a daughter.
DAVID BOREANAZ: It’s exciting. I think it’s probably gonna be a girl. Girl energy. I’m done. [Laughs] It’s all over. We’ll know soon.

When is the baby due?
Well, the stork will be flying in a northeasterly direction somewhere in September area.

Is that for Jaden? Does he think there’s a stork coming?
Jaden knows how it happens. I’m the one who’s like, "Here comes the stork!"

This is one of my favorite questions: GLAD DALLAS IS T.O. FREE says, "David, the episode of Angel where you stepped behind the camera to direct involved scenes in a strip club. This episode heads in that direction as well. Coincidence, or directorial input?"
That was total coincidence. I got nothing more to say on that matter. I’m not gettin’ in trouble. Next question. [Laughs]

I got to see a rough cut of the episode. How many takes for the lap dance?
You know what, the lap dance, how many takes did we do?… I don’t remember. [Laughs] I gotta get off the stripper questions.

I find it hard to believe that you wouldn’t remember a scene with Strawberry Lust. Or, "Miss Lust" as Booth calls her.
Was that her name? [Laughs] Next.

Britney Spears' new 'If U Seek Amy' video: Eh, it's okay

Many radio stations are reluctant to even play the barely-a-double-entendre track, but Mizz Spears has gone ahead and made a video for Circus‘s third single, "If U Seek Amy." The clip is set, apparently, at some sort of suburban house party; Vixen Britney (wild extensions, red lips, black bustier) writhes around with sexy extras in the first half, before Wholesome Britney (Marilyn bob, pink sweater set) comes on with a fresh-baked pie and picket-fence family.

And yet, this Amy person — we never meet her. Confounded, I tell you! In fact, though it’s kind of difficult to believe the song’s real meaning will get past even the thickest listener, the video itself is pretty tame…almost disappointingly so. We’ve seen La Brit role-play naughty ‘n’ nice before in clips like "Piece of Me," "Womanizer," and "Oops!…I Did It Again," and this one feels a little thrown together, no?

But PopWatchers, I defer to you: Watch it here and judge for yourself. Are you feeling it? Will you be hitting any of her tour stops, even if Daddy Spears is possibly firing her dancers? Or are you thinking Amy should just keep it in her britches already?

Minka Kelly, Jason Dohring cast in the CW pilot 'Body Politic' (Double entendre?)

Dohringkelly_lOnly on The CW could you potentially have a series called Body Politic, and have it not be about the newly appointed Attorney General (Tim Matheson). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friday Night Lights‘ Minka Kelly has been cast as his daughter Hope, who leaves Michigan following her mother’s death, finds her long-lost dad in D.C., and begins working for him. Jason Dohring (of Veronica Mars, Moonlight, and PopWatch Duel fame) will play a reporter with The Washington Post. Our nation’s capital hasn’t looked this sexy since Hollywood invaded for Obama’s inauguration the 2000 WB series D.C., starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Jacinda Barrett, and Daniel Sunjata.

Friday Night Lights fans, breathe. Kelly would be able to return for multiple episodes of that series should it get the fourth season order that Michael Ausiello says is in the works

After the jump, more of our pilot season coverage.

'Heathers,' the musical: It's gonna be so very

Well eff me gently with a chainsaw, PopWatchers — Heathers is coming to a stage near you! The 1988 Winona Ryder-Christian Slater cult classic, a sort of suburban-high-school Lord of the Flies with hair bows and Drano, is actually kind of amazingly ripe for the stage, don’t you think?

Kristen Bell supposedly participated in an early table read as Ryder’s Veronica, which could actually work, with a box of Clairol Natural Black — they’ve both got that neurotic-pretty-girl thing. But who should play Slater’s eyebrow-cocking sociopath, J.D.? Shannen Doherty’s ruthless Heather McNamara? [Ed. note: Obviously, Shannen Doherty --Annie] Martha Dumptruck? And which famous lines could you not live without? ("What’s your damage, Heather?"; "I love my dead gay son!") What scenes are most ripe for a song? Will they sell Corn Nuts at concessions? The mind reels! Lick it up, baby. Lick. It. Up.

Radiohead is 'working on new material': Wheeee!

That sound you hear is me squealing in delighted anticipation at the thought of a new Radiohead album after reading what guitarist Ed O’Brien just told the BBC: "We are working on new material…We’ll be doing some more recording. It’s business as usual." Yes, business as usual, which in Radiohead’s case means making mind-blowingly awesome music every time they pick up their instruments. Of course, the band has been teasing us superfans for months with talk of a possible follow-up to 2007′s In Rainbows, and we likely have a long wait ahead. With Thom Yorke and Co. busy rehearsing for a South American tour at the moment, there’s no indication that they’ve moved past the songwriting phase yet and actually gotten down to brass tacks in the studio. Whatever! It still made my morning to learn that their recording plans remain on. Maybe they’ll even debut a new song or two in Sao Paulo or Santiago. I can dream, right?

In the meantime, we’ll have to content ourselves with watching some fun behind-the-scenes footage of Radiohead rehearsing with the USC marching band before the Grammys, which hit the web this week. Press play below.

We can also devour the band’s periodic blog posts, like the one today in which Thom asked readers to "wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you’re not one of those people i have managed to offend by doing nothing." (Kanye/Miley BURN!) Anyone else counting the minutes til we get to hear Radiohead’s next move?
