Crazy episode tonight. I know we say it all the time, but taxis can make or break you on this game. More spoilerific info from Phil after the jump…
I thought Mel and Mike were going to be able to salvage it andescape elimination. Sad to see those guys go. Definitely a great team.I love when we get teams who really walk away from our show with agreat bonding experience. I think Mel and Mike are one of those teams. They really looked like they enjoyed every second of the show andtheir time together.
Great bonding between a father and a son. I can relate to that asI’m currently on the road with my dad on my "Ride Across America." Dadis pulling the Airstream, while I’m busting out 100 miles a day on thebike. Great start to the Ride on Saturday. Couple of hiccups along theway but so happy just to be underway. Was on the bike for 11 hoursyesterday. Grueling first day, with a 9,000-foot vertical climb. Tonsof Amazing Race fans showing their support along the way.Receiving warm greetings from people on the street in each town and alltheir well wishes are pushing me through the leg cramps.
Loved the "call of the wild" element to tonight’s episode. Teamsdidn’t know what to expect when that elephant was hovering two feetabove them. I could use an elephant massage right about now.
How about Margie fainting from heat exhaustion at the mat? She wasso overheated. Scary moment for us all — especially Luke. With Margiedown, no one could communicate with him, which made it so much worsefor Luke.
Hope you guys are loving this season. I have to get some sleep. Riding to Vegas tomorrow. See ya….

‘The Amazing Race’ recap: episode 7

Last night’s ep was great! I was surprised, though, that no one stepped up to help Margie earlier. During the taxi ride, she said she had chills – that’s a clear sign of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. I’m glad she’s ok. Very sorry to see Mike & Mel go.
Phil, I don’t live anywhere near your bike ride, but we’ll be cheering you on long-distance!! Good luck!
Hi Phil – I am sure it is the way the show was edited, but it seems while Margie was clearly saying something was wrong with her, it felt that you were dragging out what place they were in. Did you not hear what she was saying? How come no one was doing anything sooner (esp. when she was complaining in the cab a bit earlier).
Last night’s episode was great! Sorry to see Mel and Mike go home as well. I was hoping it would be the fake redheads! Man, that one chick is nasty and annoying. I thought they might get a 30 penalty because I thought they all had to use the travel agent and they went straight to the airport. LOL at the one sister sneezing in the cab…too funny!
Go Phil!! Awesome start to your bike ride. And thanks for still blogging! Hadn’t thought about how scared Luke must have been, standing in silence watching his mom collapse and not being able to communicate. They’re my fav team by far.
So what happened with Margie? Did she go to the hospital? Did a doctor check her out? She seemed to be in very bad shape.

IS MARGIE OK? WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. HATED TO SEE MIKE AND MEL GO THEY ARE KINDA FUNNY, LOVED THE SCENES IN THE HERB SHOP. BUT I’M LOVING THS SEASON, ALL THE TEAMS ARE STROLLING ALONG AND NOT ALOT OF SCREAMING GOING ON KINDA NICE FOR A CHANGE. ALSO ALL THE RACERS SEEM TO APPRECIATE THEIR DESINATIONS A LITTLE MORE.
Is it me but these recaps by Phil leave a lot of things to the imagination. Tell us more Phil! Good luck on your bike ride.
Even after this many years, this is the only show that is watchable on television. Love this show
I agree about some of the statements below regarding Margie. I know NOTHING about heat stroke or heat exhaustion, but common sense was telling me that if you’re feeling cold, and your fingers are “frozen” (as she stated), your body is likely telling you something.
I agree with DanBoston’s comment. The [perceived] delay in treatment for Margie was hard for me to watch. Isn’t heat stroke life-threatening? It was agonizing to watch her standing on the mat in desperate need of help as you signed to them they were in 4th place. I hope this was edited for dramatic purposes and that she was not denied water or attention in real life.
Phil – Last night Tammy said she had visited Thailand before — have you ever canceled a location because a contestant lived there or had visited before?
Ummm- surely Luke can READ and someone could communicate to him through that route!
Noticed in the scenes from the next episode they did not show Margie and Luke. Did anyone else notice that?
I agree with DanBoston as well. Margie was clearly in need of help. Dragging out their time on the mat and ignoring her plea for help was very hard to watch.
