Singer Dan Seals passed away March 25, at the age of 61. I’ll be honest (and mildly ashamed): At first, I didn’t think I remembered any of his No. 1 hits. But then, I played the video for "Bop" (below), Single of the Year at 1986′s Country Music Association Awards, and I was suddenly 11-years-old, singing along to the car radio.

yes “bop” was one of those songs i remember from my youth too. i rediscovered other gems of his recently too – with the favorite being “all that glitters is not gold” which actually was a song that meant a lot to me and was about a relationship i was in for a long time
OMG talk about a blast from the past! I remember loving this song and my sister and I jamming in the backseat of our unairconditioned car. (yes, we were country, for real)
I’ll bet you’d remember “Addicted” if you heard it. It’s a great (sad) song.
Just caught a bunch of his videos on youtube. I forgot how much I like Bop. What a great singer. He will be missed.
Before that, he was half of the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley. They had a big hit in the 70s with I’d Really Love To See You Tonight. And of course his brother is Jimmy Seals of Seals & Crofts.
I don’t know any of Dan’s country hits but reviewing some of his music tonight, I remembered fondly “Love is the answer” and “It’s sad to belong..”. Those two and many others brought tears to my eyes realizing I remember every word and feeling they brought to me a couple of decades ago. He was lost too soon but he leaves us a legacy of wonderful music and memories.
May his family be comforted knowing how much his music means to so many people.
I could cry! I have loved Dan Seals’ music as long as I can remember. I knew about his lymphoma, but I had heard up until recently that he was doing well. This is a very tragic loss for Nashville and the music industry. He will be sadly missed. R.I.P., Dan.
