David Cook has attracted some ire from fans and bloggers after issuing a plea for privacy during his tour on his MySpace blog. "The efforts by some fans to find our hotel rooms, call our hotelrooms, attach things to our bus, etc., is something I have to condemn,"he writes in a post dated Sunday. "Should this behavior continue, the only thing we can do is take morepreventative measures to maintain our privacy, which in turn makes usless accessible to you."
So his post does seem a bit harsh, and I get why fans would be upset with his strict tone. But keep in mind, folks, we’re talking about an average Joe who has to constantly fend off advances from millions of fans and my mom. And Idol concertgoers can be scary. I should know, because I am used to be one. And we will scream our heads off and go all crying-girl just for the chance to catch a glimpse of RJ Helton Trenyce Clay Aiken Kelly Clarkson outside the stadium.
So, understanding his need for some solitude and safety, I vote that David Cook is simply a rightly frightened musician. What say you, PopWatchers?

I love David Cook but I would never do something like that. There are two legions of Idol fans-the mature ones who just watch to see some good music and the others who watch to see the next American singer/heartthrob (Sanjaya, Clay, etc.) I feel really bad for David. He just wants to put out music that his fans will enjoy.
They supposedly: cornered him in a bar the moment he went in — didn’t even have time to get his jacket out. They call his hotel room. They run around the hotel trying to find his room. And they attached a GPS device to their bus. That’s just a few things I heard about. And it’s not just Cook that’s being harrassed, his whole band is.
I think they appreciate that they have a following but there’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed.
i think he’s being a little melodramatic. a lot of celebrities have over zealous fans. anyway, who’d honestly go crazy for david cook? he’s just an average guy.
I think he asked politely for fans to show some respect. I’d be completely freaked out if I were him, so I think he’s definitely just a rightly frightened musician.
Maybe boyfriend needs to pull that stick outta his a$$ and realize how GRATEFUL he should be that anybody gives enough of a $&*@( about him to follow him around. Last I checked, they weren’t giving concert tickets away out of the goodness of their hearts. Maybe he needs to charge a little more for the unadulterated JOY to behold his Christ-like self in person. That would weed out most of the weirdos, and maybe he’d have enough left over to buy some class.
David Cook has groupies? (scratching head in puzzlement)
I absolutely think he has every right to say that. He has proven himself to be extremely grateful for the opportunities he has gotten. There’s no reason he should suffer the level of harrasment he is being exposed to.
I think Cook is going a bit over the top… his concern may be legit, but his public beef about it is low class.
I completely understand where he’s coming from. He has the right to ask for people to back off a little! Jeez.
Am I the only one who seem absolutely NOTHING wrong with his quote.
I guess you can say the behavior is something he had to “condemn” is harsh, but I just took it to mean that he’s not endorsing people banging on his bus and calling him at all hours of night.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a direct, respectful statement. Talk to me when he punches out a paparazzo or smashes a camera.
Attaching a GPS to a tour bus is a bit much. I’s ask them to knock it off too.
I’m on Cook’s side. Why do people think celebrities don’t deserve a little privacy? Some of these fans are ridiculous in how they treat people they say they love and adore. Love doesn’t make stalking acceptable, people.
To idol, my butt:
Because he’s famous, it’s OK to call his hotel room at all hours? Uh, no it isn’t.
There’s a line and people are crossing it just so they can say they did on message boards.
Let the guy have his life. He’ll entertain the hell out of you at the show. He’s not on a reality show anymore.
Okay, so the GPS or whatever on the bus is weird, but what “rock star” doesn’t have fans who try to figure out where they’re staying? It’s something you deal with and move on. If he’s being so traumatized, maybe he shouldn’t tour so extensively. Methinks you need to lighten up, Dave.
Okay. Like on the Idol tour, the fangirls have gone crazy. David and the band have made themselves available for autographs, pictures, and the whole nine yards. So if the want to go out and enjoy themselves after a concert, they should have the opportunity. He’s very appreciative of the love of the fans and he has every right to ask for privacy. Did any of you see that “fangirl” that had the sign last year about killing him? One even posted the address of him mom for public viewing. We all know how much he loves his family and him mom. The fangirls are more crazy these days and some of the antics have gotten way out of hand. They need to leave him alone.
