'Wolfenstein' iPhone app: Hello, Nazi-shooting nostalgia

Categories: Games

Rejoice, classic game fans: Wolfenstein is finally available as an iPhone app! (Sort of. It’s only for jailbroken iPhones, which…you do at your own risk.) The first-person shooter, first released in the early ’90s, was lovingly translated into iPhone by its creator, John Carmack.

Holy crap does this ever make me yearn for the shareware CDs of yore. If someone could make Diamonds for the iPhone, that would really put me over the joy edge.

Okay, PopWatchers, what game from your past are you dying to play on your iPhone?

When all these WWII simulating FPS games came out with the Xbox 360 I’d often wondered what was the cause. It never hit me that a WWII game was what started the whole FPS trend in the first place!
Castle Wolfenstein, you and Doom were the first FPS games (at least the first ones worth playing) and for that you get props. Even with improved graphics I’ve never felt the genre could get past (or much better) than its roots.

Don’t assume iPhone awesomeness is only for jailbroken iPhones. I got my copy in the iTunes app store this morning.
I doubt Carmack or any other high profile game designer would circumvent the app store process and not take the opportunity to earn some well-deserved income from his creation. I especially can’t see id Software releasing a half-baked app through installer.app.
    Do your research, Maggie.
