I don’t think it would have been that big of deal to just name the thing after him. http://www.newsy.com/videos/laughing_all_the_way_to_space/ had interesting coverage of the whole event.

NASA has a mission to engage and involve the American public in an effort to inspire the nation. If NASA doesn’t honor the result of their own survey, it only goes to show their contempt for the general population who are not a part of their “elite” Latin etymology loving society.

Serenity was the real choice, not a stunt pulled by a tv host. Besides NASA clearly stated that it had to fit in the spirit of the space station.

We’re all going to call the new segment Xenu anyway regardless of what NASA wants to name it. I mean the notoriously criminal Scientology crime syndicate is amusing and idiotic, its crime bosses and ringleaders insane, but the bait-and-switch bunko fraud the crooks sell to their remaining rubes, marks, and suckers –is– amusing.
True, Scientology’s endless crimes and human rights / civil rights abuses are serious business, but naming the segment Xenu would better serve the world’s people to serve as yet one more reminder of the crmiinality, insanity, and amusing stupidity of the Scientology Corporation and its crooks.
