What gets banned on 'Family Guy': Racial humor, impaling the cast of 'Entourage,' obscenely catchy tunes?

It’s always fun to try to parse out what will and won’t get past network censors, and no show facilitates that parlor game better than Family Guy. The online banned-from-TV clip of the day features Stewie singing — FAIR WARNING: this is an insanely catchy tune that will stick in your head for hours after viewing — about the list of people he wouldn’t mind ridding the world of. Then we see the likes of "the girl you date who doesn’t get the jokes in Caddyshack" and "the Asian guy who cuts in front of every single line" suffering violent, bloody deaths (getting smashed by a TV, run over by a roller coaster). What has been allowed to air on Family Guy? Just recently, (implied) horse-sperm eating and (accidental) bestiality. With that benchmark in mind, enjoy:

I think I just found my new Caller Tune. I like that song; it IS catchy. I’m gonna make up my own list in honor. Hahaha.

Oh my god, did Family Guy just parody the Mikado? Now I’m sad I stopped watching.

  • Tomsca

Glad you liked my “catchy tune” — Sir Arthur Sullivan (of “Gilbert and”)

    My list:
    1. People who write Twilight articles for EW.
    2. People who don’t read any other posts and repeat the same questions over and over again.

Did Family Guy really just call the Simpsons unfunny? Now, granted, it certainly doesn’t have the bite it did all those years ago, but something as lazily written and idiotic as Family Guy has no right to say it is unfunny anymore.

  • Shamrock

I agree Andy G. Let’s see how funny Family Guy is after 20+ years. Do you think Family Guy would have got the go ahead if not for the Simpsons’ success?

  • Adam

I like Family Guy and this is funny, but no need to take a shot a The Simpsons, it hasn’t been on the air for 20+ years cause there is nothing else to put on, i mean this is FOX after all, they must be doing something right.

Seth McFarlane LOVES him some Gilbert and Sullivan, I gotta say. He’s referenced all of the “big 3″ now (Pirates, Mikado, Pinafore), so I guess it’s on to the lesser knowns. Peter will be singing the Matter trio before we know it.

Not bad, but this deleted scene was from an episode 2 seasons ago — Family Guy this season has been far worse than the Simpsons’ dire recent seasons.

Seth MacFarlane is my hero. I want to marry him and have all his little Stewie babies, even if they do end up killing me in a maternal-hating rampage. OK nevermind, no babies. But SETH. OMG. He is in my brain! :O :D

oh my god, that was hilarious. this was from awhile back when stewie took over the white house, but i’ve never seen this clip before. and to those lamenting family guy’s lack of humor this season…are we watching the same show? sure, a few eps have been cringeworthy, but they’ve also had some hi-larious eps. christian bale? peter getting the gay gene? gotta love seth mcfarlane for all the unbelievable random references he pulls out. and yeah, the simpsons? not as funny these days. i loved it in its early years, but it’s sorta..yawn..these days. that’s what happens after 20 years. this is why seinfeld left the air when it was still at the top of its game.

  • Raven_Moon

    That was hilarious.

It’s interesting to see The Simpsons taking cues from Family Guy these days. LOTS of non-plot forwarding, absurdist, pop-culture oriented cut-aways now. Much edgier content, for the Simpsons, comparatively, too.

  • kim in kentucky

OMG Shamrock is sooooo right about people not reading, etc etc

  • J.P.

You know, that really isn’t any “edgier” than the original lyrics, consider in their own time. I’m always amazed when Seth goes for the highbrow humor, it’s the best.
