After 'Battlestar Galactica,' what's on the sci-fi TV horizon? Where do we go from here?

After a long and winding space-road full of apocalypse, revelation, and stuff blowing up real good, Friday night saw the series finale of Battlestar Galactica. Read the full post.

I’m shocked at some of the bizarre comments posted here regarding the tech used in BSG. Some seem to think that SciFi is only credible if it represents our current technological aspirations…such as video phones, laser eye surgery to remove the need for spectacles…etc etc. Crazy! Is it so difficult to accept that video phones aren’t actually that practical and having laser eye surgery (which only works once and has risks) would still be a matter of personal choice? Video phones have their uses, but the idea that they are somehow represent high-tech is nuts. They just aren’t practical in all scenarios…distracting on a viper and Adama and the crew needs to be concentrating on their monitors and the situation at hand so video would be pointless as eye contact would hinder their work and, therefore, just not appropriate. Sometimes an over reliance on high-tech solutions isn’t wise or practical…remind you of the premise of the show by any chance?

    How’s about a re-imagined ‘Space 1999′? ‘…Space Twenty-TwentyTwo’.

Ah, this is what American television needs more of: well scripted, carefully plotted series that have a clear begining and end in the creator’s mind. Seriously, BSG just moved along perfectly throughout it’s four season run because Moore knew where it was going to stop.
If more shows took this advice they wouldn’t get moored down by pot-filler episodes and drawn out storylines that are meant to pass the time (Lost season 3).
SciFi, give us something like that!

I can’t believe Netflix just sent this for tomorrow’s mail. I’m used to having to wait and wait.

Who’s with me when I say “Bring back Firefly, you tools!” Joss Whedon is a near-godly story teller, and I’m STILL way p/o’d that it got dropped… meh, w/e.. big wigs, with little brains… BSG was completely awesome, but i have to admit something… I have NOT seen the last 4 episodes!! I heard about it’s being released in Blu-ray for the box set, and figured i’d wait to see it the way it SHOULD be… found a good price too!!! Too bad i’ll never step foot into a Wal-mart to get it at that price, hehe

Once Caprica concludes, Post-Galactica will resume. Adama was the last to leave Galactica. Are we certain he sent the refugee fleet into the sun? Or, is it situated in some parking orbit between Pluto and the Oort Cloud. Waiting there for the day that man will again acquire spaceflight; and once found, revealing its stored secrets. Adama never struck me as one to burn his bridges. And will the deep space probe “Far Horizon” snap a picture just beyond Pluto that is relayed to the console late one night of one sleepy eyed 21st Century American technician down at the Johnson Space Center? Does revealing this discovery to his boss nearly cost him his life? In fear, he flees, but not before he downloads other photos, then “wipes the memory clean”; or so he thinks. He contacts a college professor and shows him his pictures. As it turns out, this professor and the administrator at Johnson are opposite numbers in two groups that arose 150,000 years ago after the landing of the refugees on Earth. They have been in conflict ever since. Now, for the rest of the story…. Whatever, it keeps the franchize going.

Considering BSG is a remake, I do believe that it is currently possible to continue with BSG, I think that first they should make an episode or two about the new planet and how life is and then maybe jump into the future. BSG was one of or the best sci-fi show out there in my opinion, I just watched the entire series (including mini-series) straight.
