'American Idol': Sorry, Paula! This is no two-way race!

I cannot say tonight’s Grand Ole Opry-themed edition of American Idol gave us the kind of magical, "whoa mama I just saw a star up Read the full post.

No one in this group really stands out to me. By this time last year I had a couple of favorites I was rooting for. This year, well, most of these singers are kind of lame. Why some of these people are even here amazes me. Right now I don’t see a star among any of them.
Also, Randy Travis was useless. His advice wasn’t that great. In fact, I hate this whole mentor thing Idol does. Invariably the advice is bad.
As for Adam, if there’s one thing Idol does not like it’s originality and being artistic. Simon Cowell is the worst at this. He more than any of the others likes to pigeon hole people into a certain style, but what can we expect from the man who gave us the Spice Girls.
Paula really got on my nerves last night. It seemed like she drunk. However, I do agree with her advice to Scott: it’s time to step away from the piano. Just because he’s blind doesn’t mean he has to always sit behind the piano in his comfort zone. Simon’s reaction that advice was strange.

Funny how time changes things. When Ring of Fire first came out, Johnny Cash was told using mariachi horns would be too big a risk and that country radio wouldn’t dare touch it. Fast forward to Adam’s version. Hmmm. Odd and derivitive of the girl from Rock Star:Supernova– but not a disgrace by any stretch of the imagination.

These judges are supposed to be music insiders, yet many of last night’s comments missed the mark.
Randy comparing Adam’s performance to Nine Inch Nails doing country– well, to be fair, Johnny Cash covered NIN first.
Kara saying Kris’ song was not Opryland. Opryland is a theme park that’s been closed for years. It’s called the Grand Ole Opry for a reason.
Paula’s useless advice telling Scott to sing without the piano. For weeks, the judges kept saying “wait ’til he plays the piano–” and now there’s a course correction?
Simon trying to say Allison was having trouble with the words when she obviously knew the song (since she was eight!)
Johnny Cash popularized Always On My Mind? Really? I knew he did a VH1 Storyteller CD with Willie Nelson– but I couldn’t find that “popularization” anywhere. Are there no fact checkers anymore?

HELLO!? Isn’t anyone going to nocitce that Kris’ version of “To Make You Feel My Love” is IDENTICAL to Adele’s version??? Not one of the judges said anything, and they praised him for his originality… didn’t this happen with David Cook last year? You have to at least admint when you’re ripping someone off!

I do not understand why the judges praised Megan march 17. She has a two note range and her performance was awful. I am sure she is nice, and she is photogenic, but it isn’t a model contest. I expected Simon to tear into her like he does with so many who really can sing, but he praised her. Time for the idea that Simon is cruel but honest to die. His praise of Megan proves he’s just cruel. I didn’t vote, the show has lost credibility for me, but good luck to Adam, Danny, Allison, Alexis, and Lil. rachael

Adam and Danny for final two.

i can’t say it any more than once….: ANOOP PROVED TO DISBELIEVERS HE CAN ACTUALLY SING! Do not be shocked *gasp* he could be the underdog to win this whole thing…I put my bets on him and Matt G and Kris for final 3.

ANOOP, LIL’ ROUNDS, AND DANNY — ON TO THE FINALS!!! I love all of them for the very same reason, they sing like they believe in the lyrics. You get the feeling they understand exactly what they are singing about. GOOD LUCK TO EACH OF THEM!

  • Amanda

I really like Megan and Alexis.
I guess I’m in trouble huh?

Jimmy, you need to check your Simons. Simon Cowell did not give us the Spice Girls. Simon Fuller, the creator of AI, was the SG manager for some of the time. However, the SG were already formed at that time.
Simon Cowell, in fact, passed on the SG, which I’m sure he was sorry about later.

Michael or Scott are likely GONE next week, Kris won’t last either and Danny (whoever said is fading is right) is starting to fade very FAST, Lil or Allison will have to duke it out for who’ll be the last girl standing since Megan is history in a couple of weeks.

Adam is likely in the Final Four, but I’ve got a STRONG feeling he won’t win the whole thing regardless of polls pegging him as the favorite however.
