Any word on the version of “On the Road” that Coppola is producing and Walter Salles is attached to direct?
I enjoyed him in “Cellular” (although I hated the movie) and “Sunshine” so I can get on board. I’m always game for a pretty boy actor surprising people with his skills (Ryan Phillippe springs to mind); hopefully Chris can pull it off.
Don’t think it is a good idea, but I thought Will Smith was a terrible idea for “Six Degrees of ….” and now he has a great range in films because someone gave him a chance in a dramatic role. Plus the upside might be that young fans of Evans’ might start getting into the great literary works of the Beat Generation!!!
I think Chris Evans can pull it off. He displayed some pretty good acting chops in Sunshine.
He certainly looks the part but I’ll also hold my judgement until at least I see the trailers. Chris is one of those actors that because of his spectrum of roles it’s hard to gauge his real talents. I hope he prepares well and pulls it off.
Chris deserves this role!
Missy, “best known for” for indicates merely the general awareness of the man due to the box office that those two movies generated. Sunshine, an underappreciated Danny Boyle movie, proved to be a terrific vehicle for Chris, and he was terrific in it. Unfortunately, not big box office. And there are others. So unless you are prepared to speak to the entire gamut of the roles he has had, don’t be so quick to be dismissive. For example, having directed 28 Days Later and Sunshine, although both compelling sci-fi movies, wouldn’t automatically have made me think Danny Boyle would have won an Oscar right after these for Slumdog Millionaire. I hope Chris knocks this out of the park; it’s his turn.
I don’t know that Chris Evans would have been my first choice to play Jack Kerouac, but I rather like him, so who knows? Like you said, this could be the role he needs o demonstrate his acting chops that could lead to better roles in the future. I think this sounds like an interesting project. I’m curious to see the final product.
Daniel Craig should be Kerouac. Not just for his physical features and manner, he has the intellectual gravitas for the job.
This is a no-brainer…Johnny Depp should be cast as Kerouac
i think franco would be better suited for kerouac (although i suppose i *can* sorta see him as ginsberg). although evans can probably do justice to the accent better (given that he grew up in MA), he seems too pretty to take on the nitty gritty role of ole jackie. willing to give him a chance, but not thrilled with the casting choice. johnny depp, christian bale…these guys spring to mind when i think of kerouac. (certainly not teenbeat heartthrob pattinson as some other posters suggested. good god.)
A while ago I would have say “No!” but I happened to see him in Sunshine and he was terrific there as Mace.
I began to like Evans because of his portrayal of that character. A big surprise for me!
