Loved last night’s episode. Talk about taking people out of their comfortzone. Read the full post.

Hey Phil – thanks for the blog and the great show. I’m in Australia and one of the many supporters of an international race concept. Anyway, just wondering whether you could shed light on a few behind-the-scenes aspects of the race:
    * Does an advance team arrive in each location with clothes and supplies for each team? They all seem to have heaps of bulky clothes but only ever carry a single carry-on pack.
    * Are flights really booked out or are there only certain seats allocated for racers? A lot of flights book out after a couple of teams get their tickets, which always seems good/bad timing (depending on which team you are!)
    * Are there rest days between some legs, which we don’t see? Do racers get to sightsee or do whatever they want if there are??
Great blog BTW – thanks again!

Loved how the intro has been changed to show clips from the race, instead of the earlier clips showing the racers in their ‘everyday lives’.

This season is such a breath of fresh air; I’m absolutely loving it. I only wish that Jaime had done the Roadblock last night :(

    Hey Phil
I’m really enjoying the new edits this season. Like a breath of fresh air. Also loved the shot of you in your undies! Sorry, had to throw that in there. The tasks have been interesting and I love the locales so far. Looking forward to the coming weeks.

Well I used to flat with Phil years ago, (remember Tawera Rd, Auckland Phil?) and I have actually seen him in the raw (by accident!) – and I tell you, he’d make a donkey blush! BTW, he’s a very nice bloke.

Excellent season this year. The last two weeks tasks have been so good. Stacking wood and running in undies. Glad to see more tasks time and less airport time.
So if these teams have visas stamped in their passport they know where they are going next? Or do they have a “lot” of visa stamps so they don’t know which country they are going to? That would seem more likely to have tons of visa stamps. Keep em guessing.
And yes, I too loved your “undies” reveal. WOO HOO.

I know I’m in the minority but, I happen to like the tension that exists in the airports. I’ve always thought that you really get to know the travelers when they’re in the stressed-out “real world” of dealing with airlines and taxi cabs as opposed to the structured, supervised challenges. That’s not to say that I don’t like the challenges but, I do like the feeling that they’re real people traveling in the real world.

Another great episode. And congratulations on winning the time slot. The editing and pacing is fantastic – better than ever, and that says a lot.

Phil you look pretty good in your skivies! And I’m a straight dude too!
I was also impressed by the African beauty in her running shorts. Dang you for blurring that her hot a$$ out Phil! She makes for a very nice contrast against the Siberean snow~.

You’re living in a dream world Joline!!

I am Canadian Phil! And I think your show is terrific! Keep up the good work; you’re always welcome to Canada!!

Phil I take it that you shave those sexy legs of yours which is of course a necessity to make any legs look sexy. I just hope you don’t mind me suggesting you shave that hair from your bellybutton to your nether regions. Thanks!!

    AnnR -
Well before the final teams are chosen (sometimes they are selected the morning of the “The World is Waiting…GO!” line), and if they are finalists, they turn in their passports and they are returned filled with visas.
No one knows will be a finalist – I understand at the last minute (literally), a family was de-selected for The Family Edition.
To an earlier poster – No guide books/translation devices are allowed. Whenever you see someone with a Lonely Planet book in their backpack, they either purchased it en route or got it free from other people.
I’ve read that many of the winning teams managed to go the entire race in “Go-mode” with minimal rest, getting to know the local population during pit stops and flights, getting more money by any means necessary, and by reading and learning during those long 5,000 mile flights.
That’s why, when they cross the finish line, they look like they are 3 minutes from collapsing!!!

Why can’t Canadians be contestants on the show? My girlfriend and I would LOVE to be on the show, but it is only open to US citizens and residents. However, if it counts for anyhting, my girlfriend is a US citizen (as well as Canadian) but lives in Canada. Can CBS please allow Canadians to apply onto the show?!

  • Christine

Yes, Please allow Canadians to be on the show! My brother and I would be soooooooo amazing and successful, it wouldn’t even be funny.
    Thank you. That’s all.
