'Idolatry': Who's going to struggle with Grand Ole Opry Week on 'Idol'?

Filed under: American Idol and tagged: ,

It’s Grand Ole Opry Week on American Idol, and while the theme might benefit singers like Alexis "incredible shrinking outfits" Grace, Michael "I am not a country artist" Sarver, and maybe even Matt "I’m bluesy!" Giraud, my co-host Kristen Baldwin and I worry that Anoop "New Jack Swing" Desai and Scott "plain oatmeal" MacIntyre might struggle. Do press play below, and if you missed this weekend’s Michael Jackson recap double episode of Idolatry (featuring Kristen slapping herself in the face!), both parts will automatically stream when our Opry Week preview is finished playing. Enjoy!

Oh this week is perfect for su cky Scotty. Maybe he can do Mandolin Rain again :(

Wow the hypocrisy on Idolatry is really obvious this year. I’m amazed that you praise Alison for screaming through out her song and fault Adam Lambert wailing on his high notes. The only difference between the two is that he has bigger vocal range than she does. I’m actually impressed by what he can do because no one else can hit those high notes. Alison’s screaming notes but she’s not even in the same range. Get your heads out of your butts already your favoritism is showing more than that Idol judges!

Evil Kristen with contacts is cute. Good Kristen with glasses is HOT! What’s the rule on menage de trois? Yeah, baby, yeah! Seriously, I think Kristen with glasses is winning this particular argument. Alexis needs a ‘moment’ to start building momentum. Jordin Sparks “Broken Wing” during country week was one such moment for her. Let’s hope Alexis can pull it off & make this interesting for us.

    what is grand ole opry?

You need to see this video of Adam Lambert Singing the “Star Spangled Banner”. It is by far the MOST disrespectful version I’ve ever heard or seen. And he is the one the PTB have decided will win.

Aww man…as much as i like Anoop i definitely am agreeing with you and feeling where you are coming from. I am TOO clenching the edge of my seat and HAIR that Anoop will come out and surprise us this week for country…
He has already proven he has a personality and also HAS A VOICE if not he wouldn’t be there, but yet has to prove it to STAY in the competition. I’m praying for Anoop to wow us this week…

Mr. Slezak, what about Kris and Grand Ole Opry Week. With his guitar and built in country twang and adorable good looks, he’s sure to knock it out of the parck, right?? RIGHT???? I need some reassurance here!!

  • Heather

Yikes. See below and then understand that I am, in fact, a grown woman with a normally perfectly fine grasp on the English language, particularly when it comes to punctuation and spelling words like “park”. It’s just that Kris gets me all “atwitter!”

If you fault Adam for not sounding as good when you’re not looking, try the same thing with Kris, you would be surprise how bland his voice sounds.
And you can’t sound more biased when you talk about Anoop, you can’t spend 10 weeks commenting how likable the guy is, it’s the same as Randy and his “She’s just 16″ mantra.
Kristen just seems like a closet VFTW.

It’s time for Anoop to pull out ‘Proud to Be an American’ like Kristy last season. Sing it proud and loud. And since his voice is so much better, I might enjoy it this time. I think Michael S is gonna kill it this week. I’d like to hear Adam sing a small song from Dolly. Let’s see if he can sing small. (Okay, I’m just trying to get him voted off.)

I can only hope someone sings some Cash and kicks out a few stage lights.

I think the people that will do fine for Grand Ole week are Danny, Michael, Matt G, Alexis and Anoop. These guys have a background of country side to them, i’m rooting for Alexis. She’s fantastic! And i’m also hopin, like Slezak, crossing my fingers, toes and ears that Anoop can twist a country song and come out strong.

UGG. Stop with the screaming commentary. Adam has amazing vocal control. Alexis’s vocals were shouty and sacrificed control for OTTness, and Adam’s were phenomenal. How can you not get the difference? I am so disappointed in Idolatry this season. It’s like you watch with blinders on now that you’ve decided to diss the frontrunners.

  • Mrs.P

I think this week could surprise alot of people. There are some really great songs associated with members of the Grand Old Opry that have been covered by numerous artists of other genres. I think some of the big “OTT” singers will stick to ballads and give them their own unique flavor. The problem will be if a contestant decides to “country/wester” his song and do a takeoff on an original performance or if they sing any “gimicky” type song. Who will do the best: Adam and Michael and Alexis, who will struggle: Lil and Scott, who needs to go home: Megan.

  • Adorable Anoopy

To whatcha – HAhahAHA! Kudos to your comment on Adam singing small, i share your sentiments about him voted off completely.
Come on Anoop, rise and shine and prove these sinister people why you deserve a spot in Top 10! We have seen you do much better!! U gotta do it for us and for Slezak! He loves you so!!!!! ;)
