Chevy Chase has been cast alongside The Soup’s Joel McHale in the NBC comedy pilot Community. The Hollywood Reporter describes the show as “Stripes at a community college.” McHale’s character, alawyer, reenrolls after his degree is deemed invalid; Chaseplays a classmate who’s been married five times. It would be Chase’s first regular primetime series gig in his 40-year career. (Last season, we saw him guest on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters; later this season, he’ll do an arc on NBC’s Chuck.) McHale, via a rep at E!, assures EW.com that he is fully committed to continuing as host of The Soup should the pilot get picked up for NBC’s fall schedule. (I knew you’d be worried. So I asked.)
Now that you know McHale won’t abandon the Soup ship, are you rooting for Community? It gave me a Spies Like Us flashback… and I liked it. Plus, look at their smiles. They look good together.
More pilot coverage after the jump.

They’re pairing my McHale with Chevy Chase? Suddenly, I am filled with dread about this show. Chevy hasn’t been funny since…forever. This is supposed to be Joel’s big chance! Now I’m afraid. Guess I don’t have a choice but to wait and see. If Chevy’s arc on Chuck is funny, then I’ll be more hopeful. Keep your night job, Joel, you are AWESOME! (Especially, since you love BSG!)
I will follow Joel anywhere!
OMG I’m so glad that Joel will continue on The Soup! Yay!
I’d watch Joel in anything. Still can’t believe he got turned down for “Spider-Man 3″!
Where Joel McHale goes, I follow. I’m in!
As long as Joel stays on “The Soup”, I’ll watch any other shows/movies with him. He’s hilarious.
I’ll watch almost anything with Joel McHale. My fiance even looks like him.
Chevy is funny if he’s given a solid script. He was never funny by himself. He’s just an actor, not a comedian. McHale is funny, period. He can make a trip to the dentist appeat to be funny. Maybe by putting Chase and McHale together, it will give the viewer a chance to see if a good script can get two people of the opposite sides of the spectrum, to work as a solid team.
Stephanie, what are you talking about. Much of Chevy’s best work is when he is improvising. Didn’t you see the scene at Bill Murray’s “house” in Caddy Shack? Or all of Fletch, which was mostly improv? Chevy’s best work is when he’s off script.
This is AmAzing! Chase is a genius and Joel is hilarious!
I can’t wait for this show! I was supposed to go to a taping of the soup tonight and I backed out last mintue; I hope I don’t miss a Chevy appearance! Does anyone else think that there should be like 10 more Fletch and Griswold movies???!
