Site of the day: Hulu celebrates first anniversary

It’s hard to believe that we’ve only been procrastinating at work, staying up too late, and wasting our weekends away with Hulu.com for just one year. But today, March 12, marks the site’s first anniversary. As it celebrates Fan Appreciation Week with the results of the user-voted Hulu Awards and lists of fun stats (find out the 10 most-searched shows on Hulu and the 10 most searched shows NOT on Hulu — suckas! — after the jump), let’s fete the site by saying thanks for one thing it’s done to make our lives better over the last 365 days.

I’ll start. I’m grateful that when I was going through my Gale Harold phase, it had all episodes of his short-lived Fox series Vanished.

Thanks Hulu, you rock my world!

Well, fans in Canada have nothing to appreciate since we are not allowed to use Hulu. Thanks for rubbing it in, Mandi. Here’s a big BOO-HOO to HU-LU!! (Although to be fair, I think it’s Canadian broadcast regulators that are holding this up). But anyway, every night I go to sleep with visions of one day being able to access Hulu. * sigh *

Hulu brings me Tina Fey. It helped me get my family addicted to 30 Rock over the holidays and it enabled me to watch Amy Poehler’s Sarah Palin rap about 36 times a day for a month.

Man, you know I can understand not being able to watch shows on Hulu that might get sold to the UK, but there are tons of shows that are never gonna come over here that I STILL can’t access. So so so annoying. Couldn’t there be some sort of overseas user subscription or something?

I love Hulu, if only ABC would join.

Sweet Hulu: Thank you for bringing shows into my life that I’ve never actually watched on a TV: Starter Wife, Bones, Psych, Burn Notice. If you asked me, I couldn’t tell you when these shows are actually broadcast. Who cares? I have Hulu…

boo! As an American living abroad for the next few months and needing my fix of my 30 rock, i say BOO! to HULU- I was a fan from day 1 when it was still beta! can’t it reward those of use who are loyal users, even though we’re not in the US?! I need my Jack Donaghy!

I am thankful for Hulu because now instead of sitting through SNL every Saturday, I can wait and find out which sketches were good, and watch them on Hulu for hours on end.
Yay Lawrence Welk, Kristen Wiig as Bjork, Cougar Den, and the Geico parody with Maya Rudolph as Whitney Houston!!!

  • Briana

Ah Hulu. It’s my best friend.

Hulu, you will have my undying love for both your funny ad campaign about your being a way for aliens to invade and for being the place to find Dr. Horrible for free!

Hulu has been one of my BFFs this past year (and even longer cause I was a member months before it opened to the public). From Studio 60 to Bones to Roswell to Firefly and hundreds of other shows, I have been able to wile away the hours and catch up on some of these awesome shows I missed out on when they first aired. And don’t worry all you network execs, in addition to watching the Hulu ads the site also led me to A) buy these shows on DVD or B) start watching them on TV.

No love for Hulu until they get back on Boxee for good!!

Hulu has become an essential part of my life since the beta stage, since I work nights and can’t watch shows when they air (and, no I still don’t have a DVR, and I’m tired of taping shows on the VCR). Along with being able to see the previous night’s shows, it’s given me a chance to try out other shows without getting too deep (and loving quite a few of them). And, then, of course, is the chance to see some shows that left us way too soon again (Kitchen Confidential, Action, The Tick and Arrested Developement to name a few). Thanks to the networks and Hulu for giving me my TV back.

Hulu made my life better because I watched Arrested Development for the first time (I didn’t watch it when it was on the air – sorry), and for NewsRadio reruns!

  • TheTrueBastard

…now if we could just get them to pare down the “I am a Phoenix” ads….
