Britney Spears' latest tour snafu: You call this a comeback?

Britneyspears1_lBritney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, has reportedly fired three of the pop star’s dancers from her Circus tour after they failed a drug test. Last year, Brit’s dad was given legal conservatorship over his daughter following her bizarre behavior and legal battles over custody of her two sons. This latest news seems to indicate that Poppa Spears is taking his role seriously, and is committed to making sure Brit isn’t surrounded by negative influences. That also may bode well for Britney’s climb back to superstardom. Which is not to say she’s going to be scandal-free. On Sunday, Spears experienced an, ahem, wardrobe malfunction on stage in Tampa, Fla. No one seemed to notice until, not realizing her microphone was still on, Spears complained that her "p—- was hanging out." (And sadly, for all of us, not for the first time.)

But what do you think, PopWatchers? Can Britney regain the glory of her early days, or is she just destined to be tabloid fodder for the rest of her life?

re: “Can Britney regain the glory of her early days”? Whaaaaaaa? How can someone whose claim to fame was being a sexy naughty schoolgirl and Lolita, EVER regain that later? Yeah, we’ve all seen her p____ hanging out, and her gut, and her idiocy too. Some of her singles are great, but she is wholly unneccessary to the production of them. So, in short, “No”.

Yes, Sean, I call it a comeback. Think back to a year and a half ago and compare. The latest tour snafu, as you call it, is classic Britney. She’s back, lipsynching better than ever and wiggling her way back into people’s hearts. Now let’s move on, and let the woman do her thing!!

  • tate

She has comeback. Compare her to last year? I saw her perform in New Orleans for her kick off concert and she did a great job – all in good fun. The tabloids will never stop following her around, unfortunately but I think she knows that – so just goes through life day by day.

    That’s a big come back…love brit

A little from colum A, a little from colum B. She has her comeback, but will always be tabloid fodder and something of a punchline.

  • mk

Waiting for a major lip synch malfunction to be posted on You Tube.

I think I have Britney Fatigue.

Comeback? She never left-had a few years off to have kids, marry the wrong guy and get in with the wrong crowd. Her music is great, she is a great entertainer and she will be around a long time. Most journalist wouldn’t have jobs at all if it were for the likes of Britney!!

I attended Britney’s concert last night in NY. The place was packed and going crazy for her. If you can get that much electricity going in a place that big, believe me, it’s a comeback.

  • Kat

She is pretty and a good dancer. She cannot sing worth a lick. I don’t get her celebrity power at all.

It’s a comeback. Given where she was? And her music career was considered dead. Or on life support. Early reports have her tour going exceedingly well. She seems to very confident on stage. People are excited to see her. I am sure more people than not may have a wardrobe malfunction or two over the years. It becomes news because it’s Britney. As long as people are entertained by her shows… People were worried she wasn’t ready to tour so soon… And so far she’s been showing she’s been able to tour. I think it’s a comeback and she’s doing great. Wardrobe malfunctions happen. At least Britney is aware that it happened LOL.

Why does no one give her a break? When she was in this midst of her breakdown- no sympathy-pure criticism. And as she’s climbed her way back to the top of the Music Industry, just pure criticism!
She is a SUPERSTAR, it’s about time the journalists realized that. Who, in this generation can rival her star power, popularity, fame, success and record sales.
Sure I’m probably one of her biggest fans- have been since I was about 6, but seriously, look at what she had, went through, suffered. The Media ripped her apart, after helping her on her road to superstardom, and that is a complete disgrace.
Look at how she has turned her life around, maybe write about the courage and bravery she has for getting back on the world stage after all she went through.
She is a true superstar, the only real superstar of our generation!
Britney Spears is a living legend.
She is back, better than ever!
She’ll be around for a long long while!

  • Mike

Haha, her comment at the concert was absolutely hysterical and definitely classic Britney. I loved it. And how can anyone not say this is a comeback (unless you’re saying she never left)? I mean, the first two singles from “Circus” went top 5 and the third single is quickly climbing the charts, the album is selling really well, and so is the tour! She’s successful!

  • Countess

i double what MARK LYNNE said!! and YES she can sing, or r u deaf? she sings everytime live on each show and her voice is just beautiful!! she only lipsynchs when she has to dance…

  • Dave

What does firing two of her dancers have to do with her comeback? She’s one of the biggest artists out there now. So, yeah, I’d call it a comeback.

During the last 3 years when Britney was going through
some really hard times, she was still the most famous
entertainer in the world as she has been for the past decade.
She is not making a so-called comeback because she never was away.
There’s no need. She’s always been extremely popular.

This entire story about the dancers being fired is fake.

  • RayT
  • RRozsa

    to RayT:
The article just states “A source told Access Hollywood…” They don’t say who the “source” was, so we don’t know how reliable he or she is.

  • BrandonK

Some people ask why no one will give Britney a break. What I wonder is why people are willing to put up with celebrities who act like idiots all the time. Britney, Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, etc.

  • Sally in Chicago

I would never pay. to.see. a. singer. lip.synch. That sh**T is okay on video, but when I pay to see live singing I want 90% live singing (Luther Vandross, EWF, etc.) But this generation will accept ANYTHING an artist throws at them. They worship at the feet of the artist. They make these mediocre singers happy and rich.
Britney is watching the budget. Lipsyncing means not paying an orchestra and backup singers. On the cheap tour.

  • Sally in Chicago

And to add to that: Say what you will about AI, at least they demand that the singers SING and SING on KEY.

  • RayT

To Rozsa: The Daily Mail article that started this story says exactly the same thing! “A source.”

  • Andrew

The fact that this was confirmed to be untrue really makes me sad about the state of EW, given these tabloid worthy news tidbits. EIther way, what would dancers being fired have to do with Britney herself? Seriously, give the girl a break. Given the fact that the last few years of her life and ridiculous antics were plastered all over magazines, I for one think it’s great to see her on tour keeping herself concerned with her career. She’s come a long way. Some journalists just don’t seem to want to accept that.

  • Rye

Wow. You’re determined to see her fail eh? She’s doing her thing, her songs are hits, her album is doing well, she’s top of the pops. Every tour has some issues, especially when a) its early in the tour and b) the artist hasn’t toured in awhile.
Leave the girl alone, let her do her thing.

  • hadjer

“” can britney regain the glory of her early days”" say something logic that we can eat or just shut up,her glory never gone,on the contrary, she’s bigger than before , and no one can deny it, in my opinnion, you are pseudo-journlistes that spread anything stupid to create controversy , and if britney is/was/will always be a tabloid fodder ,that’s because of people like you that give fake stories just to sell, like this story of firing 3dancers , its just fake, find something else, pathétique
