'Twilight' deleted scenes: Rightfully cut, I'd say

Twilight_lIf you’ve seen the sneak peek of three deleted Twilight scenes from the March 21 DVD release, do you think director Catherine Hardwicke was right to trim them from the final film? I’d have to say yes, yes, and yes. While in theory, a second bedroom kiss sounds like a good idea, this one would’ve taken away from the intensity of the, um, more stirring session in the movie. (Here’s hoping there are more deleted kissing scenes on the DVD for us to judge….) The bonus woods chat feels like it was in the film (and is therefore boring). And Edward taking a taste from Bella’s finger is supposed to be sexy, but sorta comes off as unbelievable and laughable (especially if you’ve seen the sexytime that was Angel drinking from Buffy). Agree?

P.S. How much do you love our blurry arty screengrab?

Hey I’m all for watching more kissing scenes, I loved the one in the movie!!! I was hoping that “dazzle me” was in one of the deleted scenes but alas it looks like the famous line didn’t make it to movie in any way shape or form

  • Marty

Mostly everything in that film was laughable so adding more to it would be pointless. It is boring enough at it is!

  • paige

ANYTHING to talk about twilight huh???

  • Marlena

I was hoping for a directors cut with this movie and leave in all the deleted scenes. Edward biting Bella’s finger was very sexy. He could bite my finger anytime. Even though I could be his mom….I love everything Twilight. And I’m a big Angel and Buffy fan too!

Blood tasting scene: AWKWARD and untrue to who Edward is in the book (still kind of hot, though).
Walking In the Woods Scene: Awkward…almost as if they decided to do the whole scene on a whim.
Kissing Scene: Wise to cut (for story purposes) it but nice and steamy all the same.
I wish the whole movie would have stayed truer to the book. The screenwriter should have kept a version of the chapter “Blood Type” and not have the silly field trip scene. In addition, there were too many 360 camera shots…that should have been time spent developing the somewhat playful and bantering side of Edward and Bella’s relationship.
Does anyone know if there are more than just these three deleted scenes on the DVD?

mandi, thank you for bringing up buffy and angel. everytime people start yammering on about bella and edward, i want to say, “Joss Whedon did it first and he did it BETTER.” i mean, come on. bella and edward can’t hold a candle to buffy/angel. and that sound you just heard was the sound of young girls screaming in unison calling for my head :)

  • M

The finger scene was so painful I had to cover my eyes. Thank god they cut that!

I haven’t seen the extra scenes but the one kissing scene in the movie was too xxx compared at how the physical relationship between Edward and Bella is described in the books!!!

  • katieg

agree w/ above posts-they could have cut out the field trip. the kissing scene was great & since they only had one in the movie, one more might of helped. waiting patiently for dvd & new moon.

Buffy and Angel are laughable compared to Edward and Bella!
Buffy loved Angel at one point, but after that she ended up just sleeping around!
Edward and Bella’s connection is FOREVER! They can’t live without each other!

ea I disagree. I think the kissing scene in the movie was very perfect to the story. It showed the conflict Edward had with Bella and his desire of her and to not hurt her.

  • Heather

Wow, surprising, people blogging about Twilight that do not like Twilight. It is amazing. You know when I see a headline for something that does not interest me, I simply do not click on it and read it. What an amazing concept. I hate haters!!!

Twilight suffers terribly in comparison with Buffy. Those Twilight fans would do themselves a huge favor by renting Buffy–Bella vs. Buffy? Laughable. And Edward vs. Angel? Almost as ridiculous.

  • Cate

Oh, and in response to Susa (a few posts below)–Buffy and Angel would have been “forever” but for one little thing: the dude was a vampire. So what did Buffy do? Went on to college. Both she and Angel realized it wasn’t meant to be, so they did the intelligent, mature thing and split up. Hmmm….going on to college? Maybe Bella should have looked into it.

  • alexandra

you said it cate. and didn’t the series finale insinuate that buffy could *finally* be with angel because there were slayers all over the world and she was no longer the only one? buffy and angel always loved each other, but they were smart enough to realize that they couldn’t be together if they wanted to save the world on a regular basis. like when angel turned human, but gave up the dream of being with buffy b/c he better served the world as a vamp. there was actual thought put into the buffy/angel relationship.
not that bella and edward weren’t entertaining but come on…no comparison.

  • R

I agree with Heather. I love everything. I especially love EW covers on Twilight diaries when there should be an Oscar special. Twilight was robbed for best picture and a Pulitzer.

  • Ed

Angel and Buffy are nothing more than emotional masochists with martyr complexes! They had to split up because they woulndn’t know how to be happy together. To them true love is nothing more than pining over something they “cannot” have. At least Edward and Bella had the gal to stick together and make things work out!!!

  • Ali

I haven’t read the book YET. But since seeing the movie I think I will. I LOVED it. I think it is perfect the way it is and any of these scenes would have taken away from it. Adding more kissing would take away from the anticipation of wanting them to kiss and the blood tasting doesn’t make sense since he said if he gets a taste he would go into a frenzy and also he had a hard time stopping later on even with his mentor with him.

  • Jen

I am honestly starting to question whether EW are getting paid to talk about Twilight this much. Don’t get me wrong, I like reading about it, but surely one film should not get so much more coverage over others? Especially one that is no longer in the cinema?

  • sam

I LOVED the books and I think the movie was a good summary. My only complaint about the movie was the cheesy background music. I never paid attention to the background music in a movie before but my sisters and I couldn’t help but noticing how cheesy the music was in Twilight, especially during the kissing scene. Here’s hoping they fix the music for the DVD or have better music in New Moon!

  • ann

I just have to correct the buffy comments…Buffy and Angel could not be together b/c Angel had a curse put on him. He couldn’t ever be truly happy or he’d lose his soul..which happened when him and Buffy “did it”…so they couldn’t be “together” b/c they ran the risk of him losing his soul and being evil again. It had nothing to do with her being the slayer and him being a vampire.

  • T

If you’ve read the books, and love them the way so many of us do, you’d be livid with what both of these deleted scenes were. They shouldn’t be in the movie because they were not in the book, in fact, the whole “do you really want a taste” scene goes against EVERYTHING written in the novel. I really hope the writers actually read New Moon, because it was clear they used Cliff’s Notes for Twilight!

  • BC

Twilight is one of the worst /pop/ books ever. It’s angsty and stupid.
If you want actually good vampire material go for “Let The Right One In” or “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”/”Angel”

  • trazey

i’m 40 and happily married, so i felt like the books and movie were escapist fun – fast food for the mind as it were, but it makes me nervous for young girls reading/watching it. You thought Barbie was a bad role model, how about putting it in a young giri’s head that a dreamboat of a boy will come along, ONLY care about you and your feelings, won’t pressure you into sex, will give up his life for you and so on and so on.. you get where i’m going with this LOL Hopefully they’ll be able to see it for the fluff it is

  • agent227

love the screen grab, reminds me of an impressionist painting. i also like it because it’s likely that if they’d grabbed a different frame, we would have had to look at pasty cake makeup.

  • jess

Totally agree! That finger-tasting scene was especially…cringe-worthy. It was totally awkward and although I would most definitely NOT be the first person to say Twilight is a work of art (still luv you Robert!!), I’m pretty sure including any of these scenes would have made it cheesier than ever.

  • samantha

i LOVED the books!! but the movie was a bit of a let down, she just didnt seem so into edward as she does in the books and i didnt think edward was that good looking in the movie :(
