'Star Trek': Is that really Simon Pegg as Scotty?

Simonpegg_lWe’ve already discussed how the new Star Trek trailer has many here at the E-Dub all with the goosebumples. But there’s something that’s been buggin’ me ever since I clicked over to Apple.com’s trailer page for J.J. Abrams’ impending re-envisioning of the durable sci-fi classic: Is it just me, or does the photo of Simon Pegg (pictured, left) as Scotty from that page (pictured, center) look more like a photo of a young Yul Brynner, circa The Magnificent Seven, after sitting on a thumb tack (pictured, right)?

I watched the trailer and it has me stoked for the movie even though I’ve never been a fan of the franchise. However, I didn’t even realize that was Simon Pegg! Good for him. Between this and Harry Potter: The Half-Blood Prince, Summer is looking pretty good!

The good news is it does look like him in the movie, even if he looks really airbrushed or whatever in the Dramatic Group Photo.

Funny… he does look a bit like Yul. Actually, he looks more like Yul then he does James Doohan.
Speaking of look alikes, go to IMDB and check out Christopher Doohan’s profile. It’s amazing how much he looks like his dad. Can’t wait to see him in the new movie.

Wow, Pegg tries to do Matinee Idol and comes off looking like a kind of lizard hybrid. Which is as it should be, really.
I still can’t get my head around Simon Pegg being in a massive J.J.Abrams blockbuster…I remember him from Big Train!!! It is too, too weird.

Hmmm… me thinks he looks more like Gerard Depardieu.
Speaking of which, check out his latest project: http://failedscreenwriter.com/2009/03/09/hoo-dunnit-g/

Both Brenner and Nardi, not Doohan.

Actually – middle picture looks more like Liev Schreiber.

Ellen, this is his second J.J. Abrams blockbuster. He was in M:I 3.

Actually, I see a resemblence to a very young Martin Sheen – back around the days he did “Outer Limits”. Especiallyin the eyes.
