'American Idol': The final finalists are revealed!

Categories: American Idol

The train is pulling out of the station and it’s heading for the Kodak Theater. Yep, American Idol’s Wild Card round is over — "O-V-E-R," to quote Lexi Featherston — and you can either stand at the ticket counter, wondering how Ju’Not Joyner, Felicia Barton, and Kristen McNamara didn’t get invited aboard, or you can take the "journey" that will devour your Tuesday and Wednesday nights from now until the end of May.

Out of respect for our west coast pals, I shall not discuss the Wild Card results, nor will I reveal the "shocking" twist in store. Instead, I’ll just note the following: Somebody wore incredibly tight pants. Somebody sang a number from an animated Disney film. (Groan.) And somebody tearfully knelt before the judges’ table. And the gut feeling I’d had since this morning about who’d advance and who’d get the shaft proved all too true when the episode wrapped at 9 p.m. Discuss the deets below (but if you missed the latest Idolatry, then do not head to the comments section without hitting "play.") Oh, and a couple of housekeeping notes. My full TV Watch recap is now live…go forth, read, and comment! Also, please check back at our American Idol HQ tomorrow and sign up to play EW.com’s Idol Prediction Challenge: It’s going to be fun, especially since you’ll have a chance to humiliate me (plus a number of my Idolatry co-hosts) with your Idol prognostication skills. And if you’d like to be a call-in guest on Idolatry, do shoot an email with your thoughts on tonight’s Wild Card show (along with a daytime phone number) to idolatry@ew.com. Thanks!

Prior to this year, I never watched the show. Slezak’s reviews basically described what I needed to know. This year, however, I decided to watch. What crap! They sing songs that are dull and think that oversinging means talent. But I am glad Anoop was moved forward and Tatiana was not. Still, all the praise for Jasmine for a “big voice” was unfounded. She yelled. Ick.

    Hey Slezak,
Did you like that bit in the show tonight between Tatiana and Ryan? Oh the sexual innuendo!!!

  • Kim

Sadly I missed it. And I do not live on the West Coast. Anyone want to fill me in or direct me someplace where I can watch clips or something? I hate to admit it, but I’m very curious…

  • kiko

Matt, Anoop, Megan and Jasmine made thru. Its a top 13… Ricky had the best vocals in the night and really got robbed… He should have made thru….

I have been waiting for your recap, Slezak, because my TiVo kicked over to The Office before I found out who got the last spot (or spots, I guess, if there were more than three added) — but no news?????!!!!!! I totally respect not wanting to spoil the west coast, but I am in central time here and still don’t know the top 12 (13?) Heeeelllllppp!

What a night? Pretty exciting and those tight pants must have restricted great singing. I’m pretty stoked for next week!

Basically the judges already knew who they wanted to pick even before the show started. The critiques sounded rehearsed, the judges usually agreed on everything. Tatiana was just there to be laughed at; Von, Ricky and Jesse were fodder. Better singers like Kristen, Felicia and Mishavonna were cut because it would be way too clear that Megan doesn’t belong in the Top 13. I don’t mind her being quirky, she just can’t sing. If she wasn’t pretty there was NO WAY Simon would care for her.

    ANOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
    He’s back for good!!!!

  • Kim

So the judges just decided who made it through during a commercial or something? And it’s a Top 13? What did people sing — was anyone really spectacular? Did Tatiana have another meltdown?

  • Tricia

The 4 were no surprise at all. The judges comments after each performance made it obvious they decided before the show to put those 4 through. I think now the others were chosen (instead of Felicia, Kristen and Ju’not) cause they knew they couldn’t perform well enough to challenge the judges’ predetermined choices! Follow that?!!!

    it’s allrigth!!too bad that tatiana didn’t make top 12..
p.S: Guys, i heard Archie’s new single on Z100 NYC, i didn’t know that he had a new single??
the dj said’ the new from david Archuleta” and i missed the name of the song, can somebody tell me the name please??it was a cool song!!!

I think they should’ve picked Anoop, Matt and Ricky and left it at 12. None of the women tonight had a very good performance.

I agree with statements that the judges had predetermined who would win. Not surprised they chose 4 instead of 3 as they already had their favorites. What really ticked me off and thousands of others, I am sure, is that I got a late start watching and my DVR went off at 9 and the dribble from Ryan’s mouth made the show run overtime. That is so ridiculous. I am very disappointed in this year because they do the pity party and some contestants were not shown during tryouts–Braddy being one of them who Simon said was boring. Tonight, he tried not to be boring, and got knocked anyway. Jasmine??? She was horrible when she sang for a live audience and should never have been brought back–sounds like so many we have had already. I bet there are a lot of people who would have liked to see the third pick but who didn’t because the show ran over. Yeah, right, the judges made decisions during commercials. What a joke!

Anoop has that good guy thing down. You’d want to hang with him. The shoutout to eve/chapel hill was genuine. He has so much charisma and chose the right song! He couldn’t do a ballad again. LOVED his reaction at the end and the way Simon announced it! He even hugged Matt before making it, very classy. I hope he does well. Did you hear that crowd?!

  • idolbeat

Yay! Matt G. is back! The only casualty for me was Felicia not going through. Dawnie, you called it! I am on your team! Go Matt! Bring on the pianos! I am hoping Billy Joel will be a mentor!
