'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' trailer: Explode-y!

The final trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine landed today, and maybe I’m still recovering from yesterday’s Public Enemies trailer because…this just didn’t do it for me. I mean, yes, lots of things blow up, and Hugh Jackman does have luscious muscles, but now I’m worried.

Here’s a rough breakdown of my thoughts during this trailer:

0:16: What does that chest tattoo mean?

0:20: Wolverine was in the Civil War?!

0:40: How many lifeless women has Wolverine cradled in his arms? (That’s the second one in this trailer….)

0:56: I think "violently emerging from a futuristic metamorphosis bath" needs to go on the sci-fi ban list. The Matrix, BSG, enough already.

1:06: Ride your motorcycle away from an explosion…

1:09: Eeeew, gross nails

1:11: Finally, Liev Schrieber and Hugh Jackman are wrestling somewhere other than in my fantasies!

1:12: Ride your motorcycle away from a helicopter…

1:13: or away from a jeep….

1:15: or another explosion…

1:24: Is that kid — baby Cyclops, I think — writing backwards on the blackboard? The hell?

1:31: TIM RIGGINS!

1:33-2:16: Fighting! Assplosions!

2:19: HE JUMPED ON TOP OF THE HELICOPTER

2:21: The claw effects are a little cheesy/phony-looking.

Part of what I loved about X2 was how political and philosophical it was, and I’m not getting that action-allegory vibe from this trailer.

What about you, Pop[tart]Watchers? Does this trailer make you want to mutate?

This trailer gets another “meh” from me – and I used to be the biggest Wolvie fan ever. I can’t believe they actually have one of those cliche overhead shots of him looking skyward in anguish while holding his dead love. sigh….

  • Dwight K Schrute

This looks like so much crap. Worse than Fantastic Four.

First: I loled at tim riggins and btw i think Taylor will be an amazing Gambit. He looks the part and yay! RED EYES!!!!
Second: this trailer looks bad-a$$…I’m really excited to finally see some footage of Dead-Pool and Weapon XI. Ummm….. the reason wolverine was in the civil war because in the origin comics he was so they are only being faithful to the source material.
All the actors seem to fit the characters perfectly so far, I am really looking forward to seeing Dominic Monaghan as Beak
I still really pumped for this movie and to me it looks better than X3, not all comic book movies have to be like Watchmen or TDK, some are just meant to be explosions and fun characters, like this one, it will be a nice departure from the dreary and deep comic book movies of late

    Two words…Taylor Kitsch.
    nuff said

Looks awesome to me. And no wonder Hugh Jackman was honored ’sexiest man alive’ he is sexy as all hell.

  • Peter B

Actually this trailer has been out for a while.

It still looks like a decent movie. I’ll be there on opening weekend. As far as the political and philosophical aspect of X2, well, that movie was something else entirely. This is just eye candy to remind us how cool Wolverine is. Nothing more.

FYI…Daniel Henney is the asian looking guy in the trailer. HUGE star in korea. glad to see he’s in something in the states because his korean is horrible.
but hot, hot, hot… between him, jackman and schreiber… it’s this girl’s dream come true.

  • JC

oh and RYAN REYNOLDS! how could i forget?? i love him

  • XSE Drake

This looks worse and worse with every new trailer. Way to kill a franchise, FOX.

“0:16: What does that chest tattoo mean?”
I don’t think it’s a tattoo, it’s where they are going to cut him to put the metal on his bones.
And the trailer does look a little “meh”

  • Austin

    TIM RIGGINS.
That was the only good thought in my mind during this trailer. haha

  • P.Dot

Not the greatest trailers so far, but I ‘m gonna hold off on judgement till I actually see it. The cast is solid, especially Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. And it looks like they are taking lots of his origins directly from the comic books, which is always a good sign. Will it be TDK? Obviously not. Probably won’t be Iron Man or Spiderman 2 either, but it can’t be any worse than X-3, and it looks like fun!! Isn’t that the most important thing??
PS. The marks on his chest and body are where they are going to cut him open when they graft the adamantium to his bones!!!

  • Emily

    The trailer itself is atrocious but…Daniel Henney….Um….Daniel Henney….chocolate doughnuts….

  • Rita

    Margaret:
Wolverine was in the Civil War and because he has the adamantium he doesnt age. This movie looks good because they start from thge beginning and they explore the Wolverine/ Sabertooth relationship and I saw Cyclops, and more Mutants.
I am soo excited for Gambit(Taylor Kitsch)!!!!!!

  • Nix

Saw Scott. don’t care about anything else. was floored. excited and worried. can’t use grammar right. excuse me.

  • Willa

yeah for Taylor Kitsch!! I think I will see the film just for him. I guess the eyes effect is a good compromise to what they originally are in the comics, it would have been tooo cheesy if they did the black and the red.

  • Alex

    Taylor Kitsch!!!
This trailer, this movie is every girl’s dream! Cannot wait for this. Don’t get how anyone could find fault with this trailer.
I think we all know what we can expect from it, and the trailer depicts that thrillingly.
    I mean, hello! Taylor Kitsch!!!

  • Adam

    Rita,
    Ahem.
Wolverine was born well before the Civil War in Alberta, Canada (as revealed in the limited series “Origin” which, honestly, should be it’s own film). His mutant powers consist of those iconic bone-claws and an indomitable capacity to heal. They are activated during said “Origin” story (shown in the trailer a. being mangled and b. when Young Logan tackles a man with bared claws). The latter ability keeps him forever young. The adamantium has nothing to do with it whatsoever and was added only during a series of government tests to which he submitted voluntarily and, clearly, will comprise the bulk of the film’s plot.
THUS SPAKE THE REPOSITORY OF COMIC-BOOK GEEK WISDOM.

  • orville

Adam–I had to chuckle at your post. I’ve had quite a few hard-core X-Men comics fans try to explain the whole thing to me. My eyes started glazing over almost immediately. After all, I’m just a fangirl who’s in it for Jackman’s luscious muscles (and the possibility of another nude scene). But your explanation was good–to the point. Thanks!

In the vomics, Logan, aka Wolverine, is supposed to be at least 250 years old. They have never specifically stated his age, but have insinuated that he was born either near the founding of America or before then. Logan’s great age is due to his regenative abilities not the adamantium. The adamantium is relatively new to Logan, in this movie the metal is actually added to his skeleton. The claws and regeneration are his mutations. And Logan was not born in Canada. At some point, which they may not go into, Logan sort of lost his mind and became little more then a wild beast. He ran off into the wilds of Canada to escape some personal loss, probably one of the women that die in this movie. He is later “saved” by a Canadian super hero group.

  • Chris

The “Backwards” writing by HSM Cyclops? It’s most likely a flipped frame made for the trailer, so he would look to the right (in order to maintain a feel of forward progression, rather than looking left, or backward). A clue would be how his hair is parted (compare to a shot of him at :50), or if he is left- or right-handed (dunno how you would determine that though).

  • MrsBug

Worried? That you won’t be able to handle TEH AWESOME!!?? :D

  • Churba

    Deadpool, Hell yeah!

  • Karoline

Hooray for Tim Riggins. He finally graduated and got out of Dillon!

  • monica

i really wanted to love it, but i can’t.

  • Kymm

Chompping at the Gambit (sorry) for 2 years for this to come out.
Still can’t wait looks exciting, & with ‘Tim Riggings’, Ryan Reynolds, & the rest of the actors in it.. They have the ‘A’ list I need (& sorry for those that wanted ’sawyer’ to be Gambit but I don’t want to watch a Lost reunion) I’ve seen 3 diffrent trailers & there’s only about 2 scenes different between them! Looks action packed & I swear i’ll be LIVING at the movie theater that weekend! (if I saw Blade 3x because it was 1 stephen Dorff 2/ Vampire Movie & 3. Stphen a vamp in it.. (that plus i STILL love the movie) Then well I’ll have to see this at least 3x. 1. Gambit, 2.Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) & 3. Lost’s Charlie if I see it a 4th time.. well at the prices the movies are today that would be QUITE the exceptional compliment for the movie.

if you don’t know anything about wolverine please, don’t ask stupid questions! if anyone who knows about logan past they will know that yes, he fought in war world 2 with captin amercia not the civil war, and he is older than all of the x-men except charles, because of his powers, he is able to stay young so he can fight longer, he did meet some of the x-men when they was young too….like baby Ororo and gambit, yet gambit was not that older, so please look up the history of wolverine before you ask stupid QUESTIONS!! this is the differnce between true fans and false ones
