Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr to perform together

Paulringo_lPaul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be headlining an upcoming benefit show — and yes, they’ll be performing together. The Charity Begins Within concert, benefiting the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, will also include Sheryl Crow, Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Moby, Paul Horn, Bettye Lavette, and Jim James. The April 4 show marks the first time McCartney and Starr will perform together since 2002, and the first time I’ve ever really considered spending $80 on a concert ticket.

The David Lynch Foundation promotes transcendental meditation in schools. According to the foundation’s website, the practice "is a simple, natural, effortless, easily learned technique practiced silently for 15 to 20 minutes twice a day, sitting comfortably in a chair with the eyes closed. During the practice, the mind settles down, experiencing finer levels of thought, until it transcends the finest level of thought and experiences the source of thought, pure consciousness — the unified field — the source of the unlimited creativity and intelligence expressed in human life and in nature." No word on how it affects ones strange meteorology tweets, but the organization says that transcendental meditation "is not a religion or philosophy and does not involve concentration, control of the mind, or change in lifestyle."

McCartney and Starr helped popularize transcendental meditation in 1968, when they studied under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. If they need a mantra for today, might I suggest "Let’s tour together"? Maybe the change you want to see by changing the we’re-not-touring-together stance? Just putting it out there.

That’s not the only good news today for Beatles fans: You can now earn a masters degree in  Beatle-ology. Liverpool Hope University is launching a degree program called "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society." Finally, journalism is no longer the masters degree least likely to help you find employment!

OMG! What a great event this is going to be! My all-time favorite band (well, OK, half of it) and the all-time best cause teamed up for one fabulous night. I can’t wait!

I am a lifelong Beatles fan (raised on their music in lieu of nursery rhymes), so I think my opinion counts. This is neither good nor bad news for Beatles fans. It’s interesting news, but if anyone thinks this is some kind of Beatles reunion is looking for disappointment. That opportunity was stolen by some delusional opportunist on December 8th, 1980, and then sealed by the scourge that is cancer on November 29th, 2001. I’ll enjoying hearing about Paul and Ringo performing together, but I wouldn’t pay to be there (except that it’s a great cause)!

It’s such a worthy cause they are supporting. I have been practicing TM for 35 years and it is the single best decision I have ever made in my life.

Hard to be excited about this.
Ringo wasn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles.

For me the star of THIS show is gonna be the amazing BETTYE LaVETTE!
Would love to hear her go head to head with Eddie Vedder.
Paul & Ringo don’t really do it for me. It’s like The Stones, the legend is greater than the reality. BORING!

It’s great that Paul and the others are supporting such a worthy cause. The David Lynch Foundation is really helping kids improve their learning and to stop school violence.

This is going to be best concert ever! And it’s great to hear that these artists want to show their support for such a good cause. I practice the Transcendental Meditation Technique and so does most of my family, it’s a great technique and it would really help our children in school if they were given a chance to experience the deep silence and profound rest that TM provides.

The Beatles are THE musical and social event of the 20th century. Although only two remain alive, it is still an historical moment that will be recorded. To see Paul and Ringo together is akin to seeing Charles Dickens on his famous 19th century tours. You know that you are seeing two men who made history and who are now very much a part of our recorded history.

Wish I could go… and also wish the Masters degree was available online.

How some basic Journalism 101 here.
What city is the concert in???????????

I am really excited about this concert. Because I have been practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique regularly for over 36 years, I am well acquainted with the benefits. As an educator I have also seen the positive effects on students who practice the technique. Even though I am not surprised by this, I still get a charge every time I see the increased mental clarity, improved health, and more fulfilling social relationships in students of all ages. A warm thank you to everyone involved with the concert.

The upcoming McCartney/Lynch Concert to benefit the David Lynch Foundation’s will raise funds to teach Transcendental Meditation in the public schools.
Many critics feel this is a clear Church/State violation because of the religious trappings of Transcendental Meditaiton.
A group of critics, including myself, have organized a free web event to discuss this controversy. You may be interested in attending.
You can find the details at http://knappfamilycounseling.com/tmconcert.html .

I agree with Billy W, how do write an article like this and leave out the city where the concert is to take place. I shouldnt have to look at other links to find out its in New York.
