Should we really be crying over The Bachelor‘s Melissa, the crestfallen25-year-old who got the heave-ho by Jason on national TV this week?Maybe not: Reality show history demonstrates that some losers can goon to prosper on the small (and big) screen — especially if they madetheir public debut on gold-standard franchises like American Idol and Survivor. We certainly remember what the former did for flunkers likeJennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry, but let’s not forget how one-time Survivor contestants Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Colleen Haskell fared after they got voted off the island. (Though Haskell’s forgettable appearance in the 2001 flick The Animal opposite Rob Schneider certainly pales in comparison to Hasselbeck’s successful — though notorious — run on The View.)
Melissa certainly seems like an interesting candidate for a future in front of the camera — after all, The Bachelor wasn’t her first foray into reality TV. She appeared on CMT’s Making the Teambefore she threw her dignity out with her old tubes of mascara toappear on The Bachelor. There could even bean opportunity for her back on ABC: The network’s co-head of alternativeseries, Victoria Dummer, told EW she would "absolutely be open" tomaking Melissa the next bachelorette "if she were open to it."
But not everybody thinks that Melissa should keep pounding the pavement in Hollywood. "We have a name for people like Melissa — reality roadkill," saysHoward Bragman, author of Where’s My Fifteen Minutes? "While they’retrying to find love, make a little money and flirt with fame, theproducers are secretly hoping for just the kind of ending that theygot — much to Melissa’s dismay. So people like Melissa go home and theirfriends and family tell them to resurrect their image. They say theyshould write a book, go on The View, and turn lemons intolemonade. The problem is this: Fifteen million people saw her humiliation. So she’s not big enough to sell a book, have her own show or even geton many talk shows. Add to that the fact that she signed awell-crafted, ironclad contract that allows the producers to control herdiscourse on the show; won’t allow anything disparaging to be said; andshe can even be forgotten and ignored by her producer friends. Whileshe may want to dust herself off, get back on the horse, and go to therodeo, she should instead get back on her horse, go quietly into thesunset and look for a real job."
What do you think, Bachelor watchers? Do you think Melissa should tryher damn hardest to extend her 15 minutes of fame? Would you watch herin an installment of The Bachelorette?

Rather watch amazing Melissa as the Bachelorette than boring Jillian. Jillian was skeptical of the process to begin with…why does this ugly hoe think she can find love?
Who gives a flying crap about any of these people?
I hope Melissa finds a great man to fulfill her life and hopefully she doesn’t have to go on a crappy reality show to do it. i am sure there are plenty of guys that would love to have her. And by the way Jason sucks just like they said here TheBachleorSucks.com
I think her 15 minutes ended about 48 hours ago.
Dude, leave Melissa alone. She already said she was done with tv for awhile! Melissa is the most popular woman in America right now, and could book anything she wants (So You Think You Can Dance I hope she tries out one day!!), but she chooses not to. So dont say her 15 minutes have expired, since she isnt seeking any more attention. Its Jason, Molly, and Jillian (three yucks!) that are the attention whores.
Why does it seem that every losing competitor on these reality shows, now seek more fame and fortune..I think that is everyones secret agenda and they weren’t really ever looking for anything else. GO HOME, you were voted off!
Melissa deserves love & happiness–just like anyone/everyone else.
Jason Mesnick is a flake (as evidenced by all the blubbering & emotional outpours on TV)
Melissa, honey..dust yourself off & know this: this too, will pass. The ordeal you’ve been through will be nothing more than a ‘blip on the screen’ in no time.
Be glad you didn’t get married & have a child/children with the flake.
Something better is around the corner for you.
P.S. I live in the Puget Sound area of WA. Nothing more needs to be said there
I would love to see Melissa on television. She’s a very friendly face and would work well on local tv news doing entertainment reporting.
I would hate to see her become sullen at what happened. She should count herself as lucky.
I’m one of those who thinks Deanna made the right move and now know why Jason is D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D
Someday, I hope to come to EW’s website and see a page completely free of The Bachelor. Does EW own this show or something?
Well, she did just reject an offer to be the bachelorette. So, I’m not sure if she wants to be in the limelight now. Maybe few months later, she’ll have a change of heart.
Lynette–Stop picking on Melissa. She has enough to deal with right now. She’s already turned down the Bachelorette and wants nothing more to do with ABC. I will support her in whatever she does and I know a lot of others will too. And while we’re on it, stop picking on Elisabeth. Just b/c you don’t agree with her politics, EW. She is one of the most successful reality stars ever.
YES!!!! I think she needs to get out there and find her TRUE LOVE.
i think she needs to find LOVE since she been dumped by all these guys!!! I would watch her if she cam out wih her own show.
I think Melissa would be the perfect match for the Bachelorette!!! Just to show Jason that she can and has moved on!!! Yeah he might have asked Melissa to marry him but, he has moved on to Molly!!! Luck for Melissa….she has a 2nd chance for love and maybe a better chance for a better love!!!
This show needs more romance, like shot at love has. The actor who played the Bachelor was too pretending.
