Yesterday, Prince announced that his new three-disc album collection will be sold exclusively at Target and Target.com starting on March 29. The set will feature two original studio albums by Prince, LOtUSFLOW3R and MPLSoUND, and a third disc called Elixer, by an unknown new artist named Bria Valente. The bundled CDs will sell for $11.98, which sounds like a good price to me. But come on, people! When was the last time Prince dropped a CD of brand-new material that was worth purchasing in its entirety?
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Prince and I love me some Target. But the two together? Not so much. Call me a snob, but I’m so addicted to iTunes that I can’t even remember the last time I purchased an actual physical CD, though I’m pretty certain I didn’t get it at Target. When it comes to music, the mega retailer doesn’t even register on my radar, although their limited-release discount collections by high-end designers like Proenza Schouler, Alexander McQueen, and Botkier are not to be missed.
I, for one, haven’t enjoyed an original studio album by Prince from start to finish since 1991’s Diamonds and Pearls, and even that was a stretch. Unless he drops a monster single or two, I’m probably going to skip this release. What about you, PopWatchers? Do you think this is a good idea? Are you going to buy the collection when it’s released? Does Prince still have what it takes to pull off a stunt like this? What was the last Prince album that you truly loved?

I still buy lots of actual CDs- I guess I’m old-school like that. I bought John Legend’s exculsive Target release and hinted strongly to my sister to get me Christina Augilera’s Greatest Hits CD for Christmas (which she did). I loved Prince’s “Musicology” as well as his last release, “Planet Earth”, so I forsee buying this one too.
Will definitely buy this. Lotusflow3r tracks that I’ve heard sound like Hendrix recreated. Prince and U2 in one month, priceless.
Prince is still scorching hot onstage, but his studio efforts have been lacking in recent years. I sometinmes wonder why he still bothers releasing new music. That said, 3 cd’s for 12 bucks sounds pretty good to me!!
I’m in. While I miss some of the variety/spunk (sexuality,punk-funk) of old school Prince, let’s be honest. Prince at his weakest is still better and more interesting than about 70% of other artists out there.
I buy everything Prince puts out, He is not as original as he used to be, but he still puts out real quality music.
is nice to see that prince is back on track, if you are interested about celebrities networking sites Check out this link

I love Prince and all of his music so I’ll probably buy this. I really wish he would put out a live album and/or DVD. His live shows are the greatest. Having said that, when will “Sign ‘O the Times” – perhaps Prince’s greatest music and performance ever – be released to DVD? I think it was at one point but pulled from the market in some kind of contract dispute?
To me, Prince is the most original artist…he does it all–compose, arrange, sing, dance, and plays multiple instruments. Just because he is no longer at the height of mainstream fame does not mean too much these days. He is still a musical genius and has influenced many talented others.
Here’s what I’d buy: Prince Unplugged. He’s hinted around doing it for years. The man needs to allow his talent to just shine through.
Dude, you are soo wrong on this post its not even funny. Seriously that Diamonds and Pearls comment should be a red flag that perhaps you are not the best person to write about the purple one. I already order my pre-purchase of 2 copies for the drop date.
Stop it already Prince! You’re being weird again
What about those of us that don’t live in the US? Is there some other way or do I have to bribe an American friend to buy it and ship it to me?
Margeaux – are you high?!?!? Musicology and 3121 were great CD’s. Anything Prince puts out is worth $12.
I thought Prince was very HOMOPHOBIC…and TARGET is so PROGAY…i dont get it! Oh well i dont like his music anyway…but i love TARGET…love love love TARGET!!!
Definitely, the Lotusflow3r songs he’s released on his website are AWESOME. Prince is back to being a guitar god, or so it seems, and I’m way psyched for these.
