'The NeverEnding Story' to never end all over again?

Falcor_lLeonardo DiCaprio’s film production company is considering remaking/"rebooting" The NeverEnding Story. My first solemn wish is that they cast Mischa Barton. I’m hoping they don’t go through with this. Not because I hold that book sacred, not because the ’80s movie is a particularly excellent adaptation, not because the lesser-known sequel staring the late Jonathan Brandis is also totally acceptable, but because there are way too many other books that could make fantastic movies.

Please, instead of remaking The NeverEnding Story, how about an awesome version of A Wrinkle In Time, which has never had a decent adaptation. How about The BFG? The Giver? The Girl With the Silver Eyes (way less popular, but a personal pick)? The Egypt Game? The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel)? Give these books a chance!

Instead of another film staring Falcor the Luckdragon, what kids’ book would you like to see make the leap to the big screen? Let’s pretend, for these wish-making purposes, that the adaptation would be great. C’mon, a nerd can dream…

Very good choices! There was a British adaptation of THE BFG a while back that I never saw. And someone else read THE GIRL WITH THE SILVER EYES! I loved that book. The title was creepy, but it was really fun and special. I love your taste in books. (>:
If they remake THE NEVERENDING STORY (sigh), they should at least makes it clear that Bastian yells “Moonchild” at the end, and why he does that…

moonchild is the name he gives the girl , he had to rename her come on you dont remember!!

  • Suzie

Definitely A Wrinkle in Time! I loved that book.

Oh, I loved The Girl With the Silver Eyes!
I would also love a decent adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. You wouldn’t think it would be so hard . . . .

I LOVED The Girl With the Silver Eyes!!! I read it over and over and over.
How about Peppermints in the Parlor? That one was pretty creepy. Or any of the Johnny Dixon books by John Sinclair.

    The Last Unicorn.

Since they already did Twilight, I think that the far superior A Great and Terrible Beauty deserves a chance. Victorian costumes, magic realms and girl power. How could it lose?

  • Troy

Fushigi Yugi would be a far better story to bring to the screen. Fans of Neverending Story would love it.

  • Blue Buddha

    The Sword of Shannara series.

I would die with joy if they made The Girl With The Silver Eyes! I loved that book so much that when I lost my original copy, I had to steal it from the library because they don’t sell it in bookstores anymore. Amazed someone else knows it.

Why don’t they try to make an adaptation of the black cauldron series. I mean Disney made a half way decent cartoon version, but that was the second book in the series and they never bothered to tackle the rest. If they want a multiple movie book, this one would be one of the best.

Oh Man! The Egypt Game was my favorite! I would pay double the price of admission to see that! What about any or all of Pierce’s Song of the Lioness books?

Thumbs up for a Wrinkle in Time, thumbs down for The Giver.
And how about the book “The Secret of Platform 13″. That book is begging for an adaption.

A Wrinkle in Time! A Wrinkle in Time!

JB: I completely agree with you. I love A Great and Terrible Beauty; the whole series definitely deserves to be made into movies.

I love the original film in all its cheesy 80s glory, and I’m totally up for a new “NeverEnding Story” adaptation (especially since the original film apparently is only an adaptation of the first half of the book… I bought it a couple years ago but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet). If they do it right it could rank alongside the great “Coraline” and Tim Burton’s soon-to-be-great “Alice in Wonderland” adaptations.
As far as other books go, I’d really like to see an adaptation of China Mieville’s “Un Lun Dun” sometime in the future. I think it’d be great if they did it like they did “James and the Giant Peach,” live action in the real London and some type of animation in the UnLondon. But however it’s done I want to see it happen!
