'The Simpsons' gets two more seasons: Are YOU still watching?

Simpsons_l_2The news wasn’t shocking, but certainly enough to make fans shout "Woohoo!": Fox has renewed The Simpsons for two additional seasons, which means that we will be treated to at least 493 episodes of Homer’s odysseys. (The network couldn’t have picked up seven extra episodes to make it an even 500? C’mon!) Currently in its 20th season and averaging 8.7 million viewers, the animated series is already the longest-running prime-time comedy ever. And while The Simpsons no longer carries the must-see clout it did in the ’90s, it can still pack a punchline. (I’m definitely hoping the writers will huddle again soon to whip up another movie.)

What do you think? Are you happy that that the Springfield gang will live to see a few more years? Will you hang in there until the bitter end? Let’s play a little game called Guess How Many Episodes The Simpsons Will Make. You write your prediction below, and many moons from now when we learn the answer, maybe we’ll award the winner something cool, like a case of Duff beer.

I won’t be watching. All the episodes since 2000 have been sub-par. It’s just no funny anymore, and more an more they are recurring to alternate realities, flashbacks of Homer’s youth, etc. which are of no interest.
    I liked the movie though.
My guess is that they’ll stop at 500 episodes.

Are you kidding me the simpsons are still awsome and funny.

  • Fred

As much as I have loved the Simpsons…..it’s become “smile” tv for me now. If I want to laugh, I just stay on fox for Family Guy and American Dad.

I couldn’t agree more. I used to love the simpsons back in the 90s and up to 2003 but they’re not funny anymore. Its like they’re not even trying. They should say farewell already and leave room for Seth McFarlane shows which are becoming funnier and funnier everytime I watch.

        Yeah, like Futurama for example.

I don’t watch it anymore, I stopped after a few laugh free seasons. Now it just makes me sad.

Well, I love it.. homer is one of the most well made characters ever on tv. In reality you would hate his guts but they made him so lovable. for 20 years!

  • Klapperton

Ilove milhouse, bart, moe, bumblebee guy… the whole gang. I hope that it goes 25 seasons at least. If it ends then all I can say is boooo, no not boooo-urns!

I still watch the series when I remember it’s on – but I think after 22 seasons it’ll be time to call it quits – hopefully ending on the 500th episode, it’d be really lame to end it so close.

Anyone who says the show is no longer funny, probably doesn’t know what their talking about. The season premier was great, and there were some excellent episodes last season like “Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind”, “E. Pluribus Wiggum” and “Midnight Towboy”.

Hell yes I’ll be watching, I’ve never missed an episode! While not every episode is a winner, there’s still enough great moments to keep me glued to this classic. People who are dismissive of the series are obviously not watching it. The Simpsons is a cultural institution and I’ll be depressed the day it finally goes off the air (hopefully that won’t be for a long time). With so many awful television shows currently on the air, I’m always comforted that I have my Sunday night animation block.

I just hope they don’t rewrite history again with more flashback episodes. “That 90’s Show” crapped on so many early episodes that I could puke.
Okay, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but it’s still awful to see them change their history to fit the present day because the characters don’t age. I wish they had the same sense of time they had on Avatar and Futurama.

  • Josh

It’s on high priority on our DVR. Hands down, the funniest show on television. Long may it run!

  • James

A little rewrite of the last sentence in my previous message for clarification:
I wish The Simpsons had the same sense of time that Avatar and Futurama had.

  • paige

i dont watch it- but it does give me comfort that its still chugging along and people enjoy it… I enjoyed the movie far better than I thought I would- and the show is much smarter than Family Guy thinks it is…

  • Dwight K Schrute

Simpsons hasn’t been good in a decade. I stopped watching years ago. Of course they’re running it into the ground.

  • Jason

The Simpsons is STILL funny, and I watch every new episode. Consider – over 400 episodes, even if 100 of those sucked, we’d STILL have 300 good to great episodes – no other tv in history can boast such an accomplishment.
I do say give use at least 500 – to end shy of that is just sad.

  • Nic.

WhooHoo! I still watch and I agree, why couldn’t they make it an even 500?
    Duh’oh!
