Jerry Seinfeld brings the 'The Marriage Ref' to NBC

Jerryseinfeld_lJerry Seinfeld is creating and exec producing a reality show tentatively titled The Marriage Ref for NBC, the network has announced. According to the release, it will "feature opinionated celebrities, comedians and sports stars who will candidly comment, judge and offer different strategies for real-life couples in the midst of a classic marital dispute." Seinfeld added, "This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedicpotential of this subject is quite rich."

I think this is genius. It’s like getting to talk back to Ray and Debra at the end of an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond (if you’re a celebrity, comedian, or sports star). My dream "refs" are: Ray Romano, Kathy Griffin, Denis Leary (who has experience with the title), Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey. (Seinfeld’s partnered with Oprah Winfrey Show exec producer Ellen Rakieten for the six-episode series, so O should be gettable.) Who would you like to see making the calls?

P.S. This really made me miss Bernie Mac.

Kathy Griffin????? Most unfunny hack ever to wander in front of a camera. Plus, she’s a misshapen freak.

This show is going to be great. It looks like a great line up of comedians.

Ha! That dream list is pure fantasy! Might as well add Bill Maher and Roseanne Barr to it. Reality says they’ll be getting Low C and D-listers on this panel.

Ummm, this is JERRY SEINFELD we are talking about, this isn’t some crap show on Fox Reality. They will have stars on the show. Seinfeld is still very powerful in Hollywood.

Take Ashton Kutcher out of there and it would be perfect. He’s a wannabe.

Are you kidding me?! Seinfeld can still pack ‘em in. If you’re a star, why WOULDN’T you want to be on this show. A chance to rif on situations that people face every day?! It’s a win-win. The show gets great stars and great ratings while the stars benefit from being on the show.

With the chronic parade of celebrity divorces, and all the never-ending bad news about our friends and family members headed to divorce court….Welcome back Jerry Seinfeld! Some comic relief will be refreshing (and even though he says it’s not intended…a little therapeutic afterall)! The stars definitely will turn out for Jerry and NBC. Prime-time gold and everyone knows it. This will be a big hit!

This show and its premise smell worse than a ten ton stink bomb. Lets face it. NBC is in a state of self destructive collapse. I would rather have my eye lids sliced off and be forced to watch jay leno then subject myself to five minutes of NBC’s “More colorful” new lineup.

Plenty of new special guests to host on your show.

I would really like to see (Kevin James) Doug Heffernan on the show I bet he’d be very funny. Or bring back some old school Alan Thicke (Growing pains) Red (Kurtwood Smith from That 70’s Show) maybe even Tim The Tool Man taylor. These are people that I think would bring rating way up for you Jerry. Have a blast on your new show

Is the website for this show? It looks like they’re advertising counseling services. Huh.

ADAM CAROLLA he’s a genius with quick whit, charming, and funny on his feet. And he’s done this schtick on “Love Line” for years as well as his national radio show.

    • DL

My wife and I were contacted by NBC today. They would like us to be on this reality show about couples bickering.

    • Dianah Hunter

My Husband and I were the couple with the stripper pole issue and I can tell you that we had the time of our life. If you can sit back and laugh at the issue that you have ,and you have a soild foundation, you will really enjoy doing this show. If you cant laugh at the issue and dont want others to laugh at you, than this isnt the show for you. I wouldnt change a thing !we had a really good time.

I’m a marriage counselor and I have played the clip of you two several times. It’s a masterful example of SOFT conflict. There’s volume, humor, passion but never do you get the sense that either of you feel hurt by the other. Couples that conflict in this way stay together.
