'Clue' will be a movie again. Why?!

Late last night, I learned that director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) has been hired by Universal to direct and produce a live-action movie Read the full post.

I’m guessing they won’t remake the 1985 movie, but use the theme of the board game to do a murder mystery. It probably won’t be as broadly comic as the 1985 movie and be more drama/comedy. They would not necessarily need to have characters like Yvette or the butler that didn’t appear in the game. I doubt the new movie would be like the 1985 movie except for the character names and weapons.

I remember watching “Clue” on my sick days home from school. It is one of my all time favorite movies. But I need to be honest with myself – it’s a terrible movie. I don’t love it because it’s a good film, I love it because it’s one of the first films I ever quoted (and still do!) I love it because it scared me (how did Mr. Boddy die twice!?) and grossed me out (monkey brain soup – ech!) and Jane from the Go-Gos was in it (before she gets shot!) No one took their character too seriously and when it was all over my dad and I would sing “Shboom” over and over again, even though the necrophiliac make-out sessions during the movie should have led him to shelter me a little more at eight.
    Mr. Green: I’m a plant.
Ms. Scarlett: A plant? I thought men like you were usually called a fruit.
I didn’t even get that joke until middle school, but it always made me laugh.
Sure, I can’t get my husband to watch the whole film, but I will honor no such remake of Clue!

I hate the idea of remaking every movie ever made. But, in this case, they are just reshuffling the cards and placing three in the little black envelope.

Clue is my ALL TIME FAVORITE movie.
So i’m pretty confused at the re-make, but i know i will go see it regardless.
Lets just say it better be cast well, have good, celver, witty writing, and 3 endings…if not, what’s the point?
    As for casting:
    Johnny Depp as Prof. Plum
    Meryl Streep as Ms. White.
    Hugh Laurie as the Buttler.
    maybe lee pace in there??
not sure about the other characters…still thinking.
They deffinately need to pick a quirky, yet talented cast…

This has to be one of my favorite comedies of all time. The cast was absolutely perfect. You’ll never be able to live up to the original, why make a remake? This just goes to show how dumb Hollywood is now. There isn’t one original idea left there. This is a classic, untouchable to be remade. This is terrible news.
“Monkey brains, though popluar in Cantonese cuisine, is not often to be found in Washington, DC.”
    “Is that what we ate!?!”

Guys, don’t care about the movie, but why the heck is it called ‘Clue’ in the US? It’s called Cluedo in the UK, which is clearly far better.
Then again, ‘Where’s Waldo’ is called ‘Where’s Wally’ in Britain, so maybe Cluedo stole the ‘do’.

There is absolutely NO reason to remake this movie … the original stands as a classic (I happen to love it, but understand that others may not … regardless, still classic, with a fantastic cast), and should definitely be left alone.

I subscribe to the idea that “nothing’s sacred”. I love the original movie, but I won’t say no one can try to make a remake or whatever. Can’t hurt to see what they come up with, right? The original will always be there. And sometimes, they make something good. I, for one, really like “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory”.

Nobody will EVER be able to take Madeline Kahn’s place as Ms. White. She was totally unforgettable!
“Just how many husbands have you had?”
    “Mine or other women’s?”
    “Just yours.”
    “Five.”
    “Five?”
“Yes, five. I believe husbands should be like Kleenex…strong, soft and disposable.”

  • joe

What does Cluedo mean? Do you really not have the word clue in the UK? That’s f’d up. I blame Prince Charles. Or Camilla.

  • Tonya

I really think this is a bad idea. It was classic. You can’t remake it!!

  • Michael

This is just another installment of ruining my childhood favorites… sigh

    WHAT???!!!!!!
I’m boycotting this. No way can they ever make a movie that can even stand next to the original, I absolutely love this movie and it’s other endings, it’s just great! I even have the books for crying out loud. You know, why don’t they just bring back the books or for God sakes bring back some of the old 90s TV shows on Nickelodeon instead of remaking classic movies and butchering them to death?!
That’s one of my fave scenes too you put up EW. Although the whole movie is just a bunch of hilarious scenes!

There’s a movie made in the 70′s called “Murder By Death” that reminded me of the Clue game when I first saw it, and which I like much more than Clue the movie. So, I think it would be great to have Tim Burton direct the new Clue, and have Jhonny Depp play all the parts–no animation or cgi. THAT would be worth seeing.

I feel like the only way anyone could possibly remake clue is to do something entirely different from the original. the original is such an amazing movie that anything similar will always fall flat. though I really think that Tim Curry should be in the remake
