Mike Bruno – just because you don’t have a particular fondness of this legendary band, does not mean you can openly insult them, and put disgrace on EW.
Its sad, BNL is the only band that I have connected with. It just sucks.
EW – Get a new writer! One who is mature, and won’t dump on bands for their own childish pleasure. I’m sure everyone WON’T CARE about MIKE leaving.
Hey, I bet if Steven Page was in Twilight you guys would care a lot more.
Although I don’t listen to them as fervently as I once did, I have had the pleasure of seeing them live 3 times. And I have to say, they do one of the best live shows ever. I’ve known several people who had never heard of them, got dragged to a live show, and became instant fans. I was sad when I read that Steve was leaving, more so because the 5 of them always seemed like they were having so much fun together. I have no doubt the band can go on without him to make inspired music; they are all very talented guys. But he always lent an air of zaniness to the stage show. I guess it was all the nose candy…
wow Mike, that was possibly the most needlessly insulting thing I’ve ever read on Popwatch
I’m VERY saddened by this. I wish Steve the best in all his future endeavors, but I’ve been on the verge of tears for 2 days now and I’ve broken down a few times and been unable to hold back the tears. I’ve been a RABID BnL fan for 15 years.

I totally agree with Heather. Barenaked Ladies has some of the most devoted fans out of any band from the past twenty years. They consistently put on hilarious, enjoyable, interactive concerts for fans both new and old. I went to their New Year’s Eve performance at the Fox Theater in Detroit and had no idea it would be their last performance (aside from the Ships and Dip Cruise) as a quintet. Steven Page will be deeply missed; more than half of their greatest songs feature him prominently, so I am having difficulty thinking of BNL without him. I read on their site that a boxed set to commemorate the group’s 20th Anniversary will be released later this year, so at least Barenaked Ladies fans have SOME silver lining on this dark cloudy day.
I believe you should go to Mr. Page and ask him why they’re saying he quit the band to pursue his solo career when he was actually fired from the band? They allowed him to say he is moving on, but he was indeed fired. They’re kind blokes for allowing him to escape the embarrassment of being fired from the Barenaked Ladies. Now, however, he’s starting to cause them business issues. Do not bite the hand that feeds you, Mr. Page. Your behaviour over the past 20 years has often been abhorrent, from abandoning your children to drug binges. You are quite lucky they didn’t fire you publicly.
This wasn’t Bono leaving U2, but EW definitely should have included a mention of this in print. It blindsided me several months later.
