If you loved A.R. Rahman’s performance of two songs from Slumdog Millionaire on the Oscars last night, there’s a vast world of Bollywood treasures waiting out there. We dug up a classic Rahman clip to get you going. "Chaiyya Chaiyya," which features a super-heavy beat and some fantastic dancing on top of a moving train, comes from a 1998 movie called Dil Se.

so brillant.
i watched this last week.
one of my favorite hindi songs ever and it was used by spike lee for the opening of inside man!
as a long time fan of A.R. Rahman, it is SO good to see that he’s finally getting the worldwide recognition he deserves. he has long been the absolute icon of Bollywood music…and it’s great that the rest of the world can now appreciate it!!!
This is one of my favorite songs ever. There is also the same version of Chaiya Chaiya on youtube with English subtitles if you want to know what they are saying.
I wish sometimes that American love songs were this respectful to each other. The love in this song is so beautiful.
Thank you! As a longtime fan of AR Rahman, it was so sweet to see his talent recognized by a worldwide audience last night. Slumdog deserved all those wins – thank you Academy!
Shahrukh Khan! Oh yeah baby!
I love this song. I first heard it when Spike Lee used this song for the opening credits of “Inside Man.”
I saw this movie in a class about five years ago and fell in love with this song but then kind of forgot about it three hours later (when the movie finally ended.) Thankfully, when I heard it again in Inside Man, I rushed to iTunes and bought the song (after figuring out the spelling.) So thrilling to see him get some love from the Oscars.
When I saw this movie and heard the song, it hooked me into Bollywood. And Shah Rukh Khan!
I am still, to this day, impressed with the choreography and dancing in this video. It took a lot of bravery to do this, with no net, no stunt guy and no stopping!
Wait till you hear his latest Marvel music soundtrack DELHI6. Its brilliant.Mind you its in hindi.
