It took a "Helpepeleptic Dogs" benefit concert to give Bret and Jemaine a quasi-legitimate gig. With a little inspiration from Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig, the boys of Flight of the Conchords managed to mispronounce the word epileptic in about a handful of different ways, give a number of dogs seizures with their strobe lights, and wrestle each other to the ground in a catfight-like manner. All in all, it was a pretty productive episode and it started with "I’m in Love With a Sexy Lady."
Wiig’s character of Brahbrah (yes, Brahbrah) simultaneously struck the fancy of both Conchords with her "slightly lazy eye" and "blueberry tracksuit pants." Commence wardrobe changes! While the song itself is almost three minutes of repetitive lines necessary for the guys to finally realize that they’re separately talk-singing about being in love with the same girl, the video presents us with images of them in short shorts, sweater vests, and jazzercise outfits. And for that, I say thank you.
Clearly, this matter can only be resolved by a proper duel (cue Bret throwing down a mitten). In "Love: Weapon of Choice," the boys appear in blouses almost as ridiculous as the Seinfeld puffy shirt, but very appropriate for an old-timey sword fight. This video is equipped with handlebar mustaches, backup-fencing dancers, and…ninjas? Sure, why not?
While the songs themselves were a tad subpar for my liking, this episode will always have a special place in my FOTC-lovin’ heart. Bret’s imitation of Jemaine’s fashion style (i.e. stealing his glasses) and vice versa (penguin sweater) was the cutest thing I’ve seen since Jim impersonated Dwight on The Office. But what did you think of last night’s episode, PopWatchers? Do we all agree that Brahbrah totally introduced herself as Barbara? What do you think Bret and Jemaine’s baby would look like? But most importantly, join me in saying MEL NEEDS MORE LINES!

This is SO “total eclipse of the heart” inspired! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=840B27zYfOk
I do find it disturbing that i immediately recognized the video spoof.
Mel needs more lines!
And the opening track was very much a parody of R. Kelly and Usher, “Same Girl.” In fact, it’s the name of the episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TovV0qq5tI
The best song of the show was the song about the epileptic dogs. “Send some money so these dogs won’t act funny….”
Hooray for the “Beer?” shirt. Want me one of them.
More Mel for sure!
Mel needs fewer lines!
It’s amazing how Entertainment Weekly consistently makes me want to slit my wrists. Seriously. Get Inane should be your slogan. But I will give you one point: MEL TOTALLY NEEDS MORE LINES. Like 25% more. That would be, I think, the perfect amount. How many people died today in Iraq? Anyone? Bueller?
