How you feel about the new single from the Black Eyed Peas will probably depend on how you felt about every previous single from the Black Eyed Peas. "Boom Boom Pow" is silly, shallow, and catchy as all hell — four minutes of artisanal nonsense from the finest nonsense chefs in the business. Okay, there does appear to be at least one fresh ingredient added to the BEP formula for 2009, namely a whole bunch of Auto-Tune. I’d rate the results somewhere below T-Pain, yet well above Kanye and Lil Wayne, in terms of successful deployment of that obligatory studio effect. But don’t you dare accuse the Black Eyed Peas of trend-hopping. Take it from Her Royal Dutchessness Fergie Ferg herself: "I’m so 3008, you’re so two-thousand-and-late." Burn.
This is the first single from The E.N.D., which is coming June 9, and which an Interscope press release assures me will kick off "the next chapter — and the next decade — in the career of The Black Eyed Peas." Give "Boom Boom Pow" a listen below (some NSFW language) and start deciding: How’s that next decade of BEP bounce looking to you?
