Question: what is going to happen when Danny finishes top five and inevitably comes by the EW offices for an exit interview? Awkward.
I don’t like Danny because he’s obviously the one that the producers are trying to manipulate into winning. I don’t necessarily blame Danny himself, I think he’s more of a victim of the Idol machine. It wouldn’t suprise me if they told that person in the audience to hold up a pic of his wife, or convinced Danny’s family to give up home movies, or constantly asked Danny about his wife so quickly after losing her.
Of course, I still watch. But I voted for Anoop.

Slezak and Kristen Baldwin ar ein the entertainment business/pop culture business. They exploit ALL THE TIME for their own benefits. Now, I dont think Danny is necessarily exploiting his wife per se, and even tho those aren’t necessarily the methods I’d use to speak about the tragedy of a dead wife, I don’t think he is god awful evil.
I don’t get him at all. Close your eyes and see if he’d catch your attention on the radio. Not me!
If I have to see another thread polluted with born-agains jumping to an Idol contestant’s defense SIMPLY BECAUSE HE’S RELIGIOUS, I’m going to vomit. This has nothing to do with God. This has everything to do with a guy milking a personal tragedy for all it’s worth. The judges aren’t helping. Gokey could burp the ABCs and they’d say he was an inspiration (except Simon, who seems to be the only person with any sense of reality). I liked Gokey’s singing voice. I DON’T like the soap opera Barbara-Walters-haze cloud they’ve wrapped around him. Better to have Norman Gentle make the top 12 than to have a guy get there riding the lid of his wife’s coffin.
I think he’s diffinitely top five. I personally think Adam Lambert, the one with the black hair, has the best voice.
He is my top selection to win this year! I don’t think he is exploiting anything, just trying to make something of his life and move forward. I believe he will become very successful!!!
A “bummer”? You’re talking about people believing the producers are exploiting your loss, and you come up with something equally suited to drinking too much with your buddies?
That’s it. I’m off the effing Danny train. Not that I was on it in the first place.
I don’t like Danny, didn’t like him at the first audition, in fact I couldn’t believe the judges liked him at his first audition. I never believed he was all that broken up about his wife, (at that time he did use his story to his advantage, it was a smart and calculated move). He can sing and he was better then most on tuesday because he is experienced and has “chops”, that doesn’t make him an amazing singer. But I am increasing disgusted with the producers manipulation of the audience, I thought we were supposed to decide. That manipulation Danny doesn’t have a hand in, I can’t blame him for that. But I still don’t like him, I would have preferred Tatiana over his smug a**.
Hilarious “Idolatry”! I am totally with you Kristen…all the Danny worship is rubbing me the wrong way and he is so smug…and his voice is just OK.
I’m sure Danny Gokey would rather be home holding his wife than on some reality show. He lost his life partner how is he not supposed to talk about it. It happened FOUR weeks before he auditioned. Should he have forgotten about it by then? You people are a bunch of heartless pigs. He’s the best singer in this competition. He deserves to be in the top 12, actually from what I’ve seen he deserves to win it all.
This is appalling and I’m so tired of it. Why can’t people get the fact that Sophia wanted this for him and he’s just trying to share it with her? It’s been seven months. That’s it. And only WEEKS when he first auditioned. He’s finding a connection wtih her and purpose in her death. She wanted this for him and he’s doing it for her. And 99% of the time the only reason he talks about it is because someone specifically asks about it. It’s not like he’s shoving it down people’s throats. Yes, AMERICAN IDOL is shoving it down our throats but he’s certainly not doing it for votes. He’s a talented singer that doesn’t deserve all this backlash. As if he hasn’t been through enough.

i still like danny. it’s reasonable to expect that his deceased wife would still be on his mind (probably the worst thing that’s ever happened to him)while he’s currently going through one of the best things to ever happen to him (getting to fulfill his dream career). it’s the human condition people. so, let’s ease on up off him. if, however he begins to blatantly exploit his wife’s death then we can be heated. besides the real AI travesty: will Anoooooooop get a wild card and come back?
