'I Love You, Beth Cooper' trailer: Ready for a saucy Hayden Panettiere?

If the one thing in the world that would make you happy is the sight of Hayden Panetierre acting all naughty-saucy-haute-bitchy, then boy…do I have a trailer for you.

Now, what was going through my mind while watching this was not, Chris Columbus wouldn’t have been my first guess as the writer director of a pseudo-raunchy teen comedy, but okay. Nor was it, Will kids getting hit by cars become the new shot-to-the-crotch? No, it was, If these dorks had created Hayden with a primitive PC while wearing bras on their heads, and then she led them on "the night that would change their lives," this would be Weird Science.

Not that reminding me of Weird Science is ever a bad thing. (Kelly LeBrock, why hast thou forsaken us?)

Are you on board for I Love You, Beth Cooper? Or do you, like me, think that if Hayden Panetierre’s ever gonna shed those "save the cheerleader" shackles she’ll have to take roles that erode her comfort zone. Like the stage version of Cruel Intentions that exists only in my head where she’s smooching Sarah Michelle Gellar six days a week and twice on Sunday. TMI? Prolly…

The book is great… hopefully the movie will live up to it.

  • Dwight K Schrute

That trailer was so bad it made my eyes bleed.

  • Mike

Never read the book. Looks like your typical teen comedy that’s full of wacky hijinks only with a tiny bit of depth to the story.
Hayden looks right for the part and was good in the trailer, nerdy guy looks 25.

  • Samantha

I like to what the movie is about.I hope its going to be good.

  • KR

I heard the book was really good, but this looks like garbage. Or to be more specific a terrible unfunny version of Can’t Hardly Wait.

  • Rachel

the nerdy guy DOES look like he’s 25, and Hayden really seems weird in this role. I think you’re right about the Cruel Intentions thing…something completely off the wall like that.

  • Fatima

My roommate’s name is Beth Cooper and we’re angry!!!

  • To KR

Can’t Hardly Wait was an unfunny version of Can’t Hardly Wait.

i don’t know how i feel about this… i loved the book and could totally see it being turned into a movie but this doesn’t seem like it will live up to the source

I read the book, and I have to say, I don’t know what will bring girls to see that movie. The guy is all about being in love with a floozy/drinker/mean girl and the main character himself looks absolutely nothing like a high schooler. The trailer was horrible–basically came off as another teen movie with nothing to offer, when actually, I Love You Beth Cooper the book did (kind of).

I disliked the book, and don’t understand why it’s so universally loved. It tries way too hard to be funny, and the characters are annoying instead of endearing. The trailer doesn’t look like it improves upon the material, so count me out.

    Huh?
    Well, explains the lapdance.

I really liked the book – I thought it was clever. However, I can’t get behind this movie at all. I’m not a fan of Hayden P, and the guy playing the lead does look much too old. I had an actor in my head while I was reading the book (I had already heard it would be a movie) and I still think he would have been the ideal choice: Dan Byrd from “Aliens in America”. Funny, age-appropriate, believably geeky…he would have been perfect. Sigh.

eeeeeeeeeeehhh. I’ve had just about enough of Hayden on Heroes. Do I want to see her on the big screen? Not so much.

  • Penny

The book was okay, nothing great. But if there’s anything Chris Columbus is good at it’s wrecking things I enjoy. So despite the presence of Jack Carpenter, this is going to suck.

  • Jenny

The book was decent but benign and it seems that the movie is staying fairly close to the source material so I’m sure it will fall into the same category. Should prove to be a hit with the 14 – 18 crowd.

  • Amy

Why isn’t this called Can’t Hardly Wait 2?

  • Anonymous

haven’t read the book; had’t heard about the movie before; not much interested; typing this comment; leaving the website

  • KG

    meh
never did like Can’t Hardly Wait

  • Tuzo

Actually, that didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. And it did look like Weird Science! That was the part I liked. :) Hmmm…now if you were actually going to remake Weird Science who would play Kelly LeBrock’s part?

  • Damien

I’m a huge heroes and columbus fan, so I think it’s going to be pretty good. Sure, a bit cheeky, but who knows, may surprise us. Btw, the movie website is pretty cool. My chick loved the personalized trailer ability. http://www.iloveyoubethcoopermovie.com

  • Jennie

Ugh. It looks like they took out all the book’s clever nuances, snark, and quirkiness and just demolished it for the sake of what looks worse than American Pie Lite.

  • Anon.

The movie looks pretty bad but I’d probably watch it just because she’s in it. She is soo fine.

  • Blatt81

The book is hysterical and anyone who wants to see this movie should read it beforehand. I honestly don’t envision Hayden as Beth Cooper. But that’s the point Beth Cooper isn’t Beth Cooper, she’s every geek’s own personal dream girl. So it won’t be a matter of can Hayden pull off Beth it’s can she make every guy drool for her?

  • Winona

I enjoyed the book and it looks like the movie’s going to stay pretty close to it – I’ll definitely check it out.

  • Mike B

Hayden is losing her looks and appeal.

  • Trev

    @Tuzo:
    Who else but Elizabeth Hurley?

  • Kud

Loved the book, but the look of the trailer doesn’t even compare to the cover of the book! Should’ve remained a book, at least for now.
