This is great. My only problem with it is a problem I have with Family Guy from time to time: they’ll beat their jokes to death. Sometimes, their jokes’ll be funny for about 15 seconds…then not so much. Yet it keeps going on…and on…unnecessarily. I don’t think they needed to do the whole 2 minute gag here. Could’ve put the whole thing online and have only done part of it on the show.

Why are so many people complaining about how easy it was for them to do this? Who cares how easy or hard it was. The fact is that it was funny. Of all the Christian Bale spoofs over the past couple weeks, this was the funniest. So yea, big ups to the Family Guy writers. I’m not even that big of a fan of the show. But this clip was great.

I like FG, but this episode was kind of lame. It’s easy to potshot Bale (I’m sure SP will as well, as preachy as that show’s become), but this shows me that FG (like SP) can actually be “timely”…something it doesn’t usually strive for. Most of FG’s in-jokes seem stuck in an 80s-to-mid 90s mindset, so using something from the last 5 years as fodder was indeed different. To me, the older pop references sometimes get tiresome.
Case in point: The Stewie “self-made video” dragged on waaaay too long. Seth hasn’t always figured out how to advance his subplots without an overload of filler.
I WAS surprised he didn’t tweak Fox in the “least attractive male name” bit by having it be “Rupert”, “Sean”, or even “Riley” (as in “Bill O’”…and yes, I know it’s really spelled “O’Reilly”). Actually, “Seth” (as in Green and McFarlane) would have worked, too.
IMO, Seth needs to join us in 2009 more often. Even “The Simpsons” has updated itself, and it’s 20 years old!

Wait, are there TWO Jons on here posting antithetical takes on Family Guy? Or did one just change his mind? To the latter, I like Family Guy, too, but if you’re going to defend it on the grounds that other shows “dump” on it out of envy, then you’re gonna have a rough go it my friend. Ken Tucker’s already pointed out that the manatees have their own take on what’s considered good comedy, and Two & A Half Men only trounces Family Guy in the ratings. Not saying it’s not hilarious and true, but they’re guiltier than Matt & Trey by a mile. Housewives, Scrubs, King of the Hill even DHARMA & FREAKIN’ GREG have been hilariously “dumped” on by the amiable sea cows on the Family Guy writing staff.
