With Michael Ausiello hearing that ABC will renew Ugly Betty, it’s a good time to have a PopWatch town hall on the show. Here are five things I’d like to see happen:
1. Betty has another crush that’s worthy. I’m happy that Betty walked away from Jesse (Val Emmich) when it became clear that she was just a human cup of cocoa to him, but I’m also sad that he turned out to be a bit of a douche. SPOILER: As Ausiello reports, Betty will meet a sports writer (Daniel Eric Gold) at YETI in the Feb. 19 episode. Fingers crossed he actually lets her speak.
2. Archie Rodriguez needs another haircut. I liked Ralph Macchio’s chemistry with Ana Ortiz. I cannot tell a lie.
3. Justin does…something. Quick. Someone think of a story that would give Mark Indelicato more screen time. They’re very all or nothing with him.
4. Christina has her baby already. I haven’t been this ready to see someone pop since the Weather Channel’s Heather Tesch was pregnant for, like, every morning that I turned on the TV for nine months. I can’t wait to see Willy with a baby. Because then we get to see Marc with a baby. And then Amanda with a baby.
5. Willy and Daniel struggle in their new relationships, but stay in them for a while. It’s been a nice change of pace to see these two stand vulnerable in front of seemingly decent people.
The mic is yours.

I’m glad that ABC is Renewing Ugly Betty. My mom likes to watch it
1. bring back cliff!!
2. the witty banter on the show has been lukewarm, bring back the snark!
3.more claire
4.some kind of drama, everyone is getting along, i miss the mode drama and cattiness..
5. the suarezs need to cut betty some slack instead of giving her major guilt trips for leaving the nest
I, too, am disappointed with how things turned out with Jesse, and I hope Betty gets some real love soon. Also, I hope Betty, Amanda, and Marc’s new friendship continues to grow, though I hope the latter two remain just as snarky.

I think they lost their momentum in the move to new york. too much changed too quickly, and not in the right way. Whereas Season 1 had a distinct tellenovella feel to it, season 3 seems like arbitrary hit and miss. I’m missing the grand over-arching story from season 1- who was the mysterious woman behind the veil etc. I also think their costume guru needs to dial it down a little. The characters look less like fashion forward and more like fashion retarded. the writing is cartoony enough, that having them dress like looney tunes too just sucks all suspension of disbelief for me. I also think they’ve gone from uglifying Betty to TACKifying her. America Ferrara’s invaluable skill is looking graceful even when she’s not. These days she just looks like clownshoes. Which honestly, no one can look graceful in. I also think it’s a shame that eventhough Anna Ortiz can read the phone book and make it compelling, the writers have given her pretty much just that to work with.
1) Quit it with making Betty feel bad for striving for her goals. Her family would support her career, not hinder it.
2) How long is she going to be “ugly”? I mean really.. Anyone exposed to fashion as she has been for these many years would be influenced.
3) Quit making Betty damn whiny and pathetic.
More Mark and Amanda, more Mark and Amanda, more Mark and Amanda. Did I say I want more Mark and Amanda.
Oh, and for Betty to stop being so annoying…oh wait, that will never happen.
I love how strong and independent Betty has become, but I really want her to stop acting so self-righteous all the time. I know in the last few eps, she’s been brought back down to earth, but she needs to “find herself” without acting like a know-it-all saver-of-the-day.
By the way, to clarify, the bringing back down to earth of Betty has only been occurring at the end of those episodes…
I like the direction the show has gone in, it is more *intense* dramatic, with lots of good moments with Marc, Amanda and Betty together. I really didn’t like the fashion at the start of the season, it was WAY too over the top, and Marc’s hair was HORRIBLE, but they seem to have fixed most of that. I would like to see more of Claire and Justin; they are great characters. More Daniel/Betty moments are good too.
These are the things that I think are seriously lacking this season:
1) More Claire! Come on – you can’t seriously keep Judith Light on staff and NOT use her in more storylines!
2) More Justin! After the whole thing with Randy, his character just drifted off to the side. WTF is up with that?
3) More Daniel and Betty scenes. Is it just me, or does it feel like they aren’t the “best buds” that we’re used to seeing? I’ve always felt like their friendship/relationship has been one of the best parts of the show, but lately, it seems like it’s taken the backseat to other things – kinda like Justin!
Those are my suggestions, so far. Writers, you need to bring back some of that OOMPH into the show because boredom is setting in…
I would love to see a Claire storyline. How about bringing in someone like, James Naughton, as a love interest?
Bring back Rebecca R. Stamos. Love her dynamic with Eric Mabius. And you are right, have the baby already; Betty needs her best friend back in the swing of things again.
I want to laugh more than being sad, so I hope they’ll put more funny scenes.
The most important thing is that the writers hold steadfast to that wonderful blend of comedy, drama, and intrigue that they create each week. They should have at least three plotlines occuring. There are more than enough characters and scenarios to keep the show from becoming stagnant. The reality is that the writers have plenty to work with as they planted the seeds for great storylines a season ago and then abandoned them. If they go back to the revolving door of tackling issues with Justin and school, Betty and her career, Hilda and the Boutique, the well-being of the father, Wilhelmena and Daniel’s quests for true love and power, and the present but unspoken Connection between Daniel and Betty, the show is more than capable of getting its second wind.
I completly agree about Archie and Hilda…I noticed the chemistry too and I want them together!
I agree with confidential about Betty’s wardrobe this season. From the beginning of the first season, we saw that she was a go-getter and confident in her career goals. Thus, it figures that after three years she would have learned how not to dress like a clown. Give her a better haircut and take off the braces! She can be ‘ugly’ compared to the other women on the show, but who says she has to look like a clown? NO WAY would she be working as an editor’s personal assistant in real life dressed in those garish outfits. Yuck.
America Ferrera deserves to have her character evolve on the outside too. As a hispanic woman, it bugs the heck out of me!
Betty gets a makeover! Please! No one who worked at a “Vogue” stytle magazine would continue to dress the way she does. No way in hell. And please make her more realistic. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all lived in a world where we could all be honest when we made mistakes and took the high road every time someone back stabbed us.
And I disagree with the person who said bring back Rebecca Romijn’s character…. the show started to go off track when her character came on board.
The braces. I really, really want them to take off the braces. Clothes, hair, bad makeup, all good, but I hate the braces. When she kisses someone, I shudder.
As for character storylines, I agree the most on Number 2!
Definitely get rid of the braces.
But, also, TOTALLY stop the whole story-line of work vs. family. It’s so contrived. Who’s family gets that upset? If they were really supportive they’d understand. Maybe be a little disappointed that she’s not doing their every whim, but understand. Gak! I hate those storyline.
Oh, and make Daniel a player again. Not a “so depressed and unloved I must sleep around”, but “I’m rich, young, and want to sleep around”. I’m sick of his love stories. Those are ridiculous too.
I’ve thought from the beginning of the show that Betty’s look should evolve because of her exposure to the fashion world. Instead it seems like her clothes keep getting uglier and uglier. She could wear less garish clothes and get a better hairstyle, particularly with a sister who is a stylist. Also, it’s totally unrealistic for somebody who looks like Betty to keep attracting hot guys. I know she’s a good person, but that just doesn’t happen in real life. Henry, at least, was a bit of a dork, but I haven’t been able to believe the other guys would be attracted to her. Now they’re bringing in another new love interest for her. I haven’t seen him yet, but I bet he’ll be too good-looking to be interested in Betty.
I was starting to think Sean, Gus and I were the only ones wishing for a Ralph Macchio comeback. Archie and Hilda, yes! I assumed he was her new love interest and was saddened they didn’t take that anywhere. Bring him back!
They need to do something because I can’t stand Betty. All her good girl crap and innocence is garbage after how she dissed Gio. Gio was everything. Encouraging, likeable, patient and she dissed him. After that Betty offically became a witch. Also sick of Hilda’s everything is about me attitude. Also they have to fix up Betty. She is looking stupid now wearing those clothes and STILL wearing those braces.
I think getting Justin and Ignacio in a business together would be spectacular! Get them to buy a mobile food truck or perhaps have Grandpa make something so good that Justin can get a web based business and sell it for them. Ignacio is so good with food and in the kitchen it just makes sense that they could go into business together.
…I agree with previous posters, what I’d like to see the most on the show is Betty’s makeover; please!!! it doesn’t have to be everything at once, they could do it gradually; the 1st thing to go should be the braces, right away…in the last episode, they were distracting, to me: I thought she had added an extra row of them, there was too much metal on her mouth…and Justin should be in charge of the makeover…
I agree with the bringing back Macchio. Why did they introduced him and Hilda just to drop the story?!
I was about to say bring back Cliff too but*spoiler*we know that Marc will have another love interest*end spoiler* so it’s hopeless.
Christina giving birth of Willy’s child should occur soon for the sake of credibility to the show but now that Willy is nicer and had gotten into amnesia with regards for her taking over the Meade empire I don’t see what good it would bring.
Another crush?! no way! We know Matt is coming this way and I don’t know what I think of Betyt anymo. Why the helpless child that kicked Gio out of her life implying that she wanted to take a season off romance to work her dreams out and then complain that she hadn’t live her “Manhattan fantasy” Give me a break!!! If I want to see real romance I want to see it with Gio. Pay some bucks to Freddy Rodriguez, bring his talented cutie *ss back to the show and make Betty have her date and her love-fights with him already!
Isn’t it odd how the flamboyant, over-the-top gay supporting character seems to be the only one who’s growing at all, this season? Everyone is so stagnant. It would be nice to see Betty and her sister act their ages.
Get rid of the Daniel/Molly thing. It’s boring and weird.
Wilhelmina’s good. Amanda’s good too – when they choose to give her a scene… she’s been pretty neglected.
Judith Light needs more air time!! The only convincing love interest for Betty was Henry. He was a bit of a dork which made his attraction and affection towards Betty believable. The two were good for each other. It’s a shame how the writers killed that story line. Betty is still one of the best shows on tv.
They need to return to the telenovela plotline thats what made the other adaptations so successful and make this one better
how long has betty had the braces?! normal people only have them for about 2 years. & she never is going to the orthodontist to get them adjusted, whats the point? take em off!!!
