As a woman raised in the South I empathize with Melissa. My mother was the most nurturing mom ever and my dad worked very hard and treasured his home as his castle. Yes, this is old school stuff. I was captain of my high school cheer squad and neither parent ever saw me cheer. Their total focus was our home and I respect that. It can play havoc with self-esteem but Melissa won a spot on the most coveted cheer squad which a ‘damaged’ person would never attempt. I love the way her father turned the HTD down by saying that meeting her potential husband for the first time was something to be cherished. Just because they show their love for her in a way that does not include a television audience is not weird. The friend said she met the parents at a pool party during college so they were not reclusive. What kind of college students want someone’s parents hanging around their pool parties? Just some random thoughts….
I don’t think the problem with Mel is Mel, I think it’s her family. How can having such a sweet, outgoing daughter be a problem?? I understand not meeting Jay in front of the cameras, but to not meet him at all, that’s inexcusable. This guy could be their son in law. And what’s up with Deanna coming back?? I know you guys all think she’s all that and a bag of Fritos, but she’s had her half hour of fame. And most only get 15 minutes.
Chris- the comment about Jason thinking he was being punked when meeting Naomi’s family was hilarious, thanks for that. Was there not a chance for Jason to meet Melissa’s parents off camera? I’m not sure how long they are actually there. He and Melissa have the most chemistry to me. So I know the show is taped, but Deanna is coming back – was she newly broken up with Jesse when it was taped? It seems that way. Thanks again for your blog.
Thanks to our local satelite provider displaying the wrong air time, I missed the first hour and tuned in just in time to meet Naomi’s parents! I have to admit, I did think it was a joke of some sort! That poor girl, I fear she will remain single for a long time!
May this be a lesson for all future girls and gals thinking about going on the show and the contestant has already been on. Please, do your homework, but not the “Shannon way”. If your family is nuts, you may want to think twice, or at least pull a “Melissa”!
Chris, after the final rose ceremony and Jason proposes to Melissa, please tell us that Jason did get to to meet her parents off camera. Otherwise, I will have some serious issues with the Producers and him picking a lady with family unknown and his maturity and responsibility to Tyler!
As usual, great blog Chris, and I cannot wait until next week!
personally, i don’t see jason with any of the girls and i emphasize girls…can’t see any as wife and mother….i think that he reconnects with deanna….thought maybe he already had and they built show around that????….not too great for all that have invested a lot of their emotions….
Another great blog, Chris! We knew that wasn’t Jason’s house! Another question: do the producers suggest things for the parents to do with the bachelor? I heard on another season that parents were made to set up pageant stuff of their daughter. Thanks! Any insider information appreciated!
Love the blog! I find myself wondering what’s going to be in it while I’m watching the show.
I was wondering if any of the talk about Jason being divorced is edited out of the show. I think it’s interesting that in past season’s when a woman has been divorced, she waits for a couple dates and when she breaks the news it comes with some background info. Like–he cheated on me, or we just grew apart, or I was too young—something like that. With Jason, we get no info on what led to his divorce. As a potential girlfriend, I would want to know that info. Also, Jason seems to be interested in how much the ladies are ready to have Ty in their life, but there’s no mention on how much Ty’s mother would be in their life too. I think that that would be info that was important. Do they discuss those things and we don’t see it or does it never come up?
This blog is the best part of the show. Thanks!
Have you ever noticed that people who are reincarnated were never just a “plain ol’ person” in another life? Joan of Arc? How about a high school librarian! Chris, thanks for getting Jason a Thesaurus – “incredible” is the new “amazing”, although the “A” word made it twice in the last minute to win the over/under for the night. Now if we could only convince the women that the word “connected” has a connotation of mutuality – I keep getting a picture of a hose lying on the ground unconnected to a spigot. Oh wait, that is the focus of the overnight date . . .
Go Granny!!!
Hey Chris- My husband and I wait for the final rose because you always give Jason a tap on the bum like its a sporting event. We crack up every time!!! Disappointing last night! Just a shoulder tap!! BTW, love the blog. Look forward to your thoughts when it is all said and done!
I read on a site that Melissa was recently seen at the Loon, which is described as in a rough area of town. Is this what she knows? Everytime she is seen, she is in short shorts, and hardly any top…….even at her brother’s graduation! Not sure she is grounded enough for this situation.
I so want him to pick Jillian. She seems like such a great match! She seems into him for him rather than to just be married. Her family was so great and I loved how proud of her they were. That is a great sign of someone who will have it to give to the family they create.
I think Naomi’s mom is more psychic than we gave her credit for. At Jillian’s her mom gives a speech about a dove… then a dove “happens” to crash into Naomi’s mom’s windshield… accident I think not but a premonition of what is to come (sadly it was a sign that Jillian will not be the final one). So you should probably take back those things you thought/said about Naomi’s mom because she is spot on.
Oh I was j/k I hope not b/c I want Jillian to be the f1 but it was ironic
This is the first time I’ve ever watched this show, mainly because this blog is hilarious. But I’m wondering how much wine is consumed throughout the season? I think they were drinking wine in every family visit, which was odd to me because I feel like there are a lot of non wine families out there. Wines companies should start promoting themselves on this show if they don’t already.
He has to choose Jillian. Their interaction is the most natural and real. The other two girls seem sweet but way too young for him. The dove segment made me cry with laughter. I agree that it was some of the best reality TV. Can’t wait to see it on The Soup! Chris, thanks for the blog. How much time did Jason spend in each city? I actually liked the sweater but agree that argyle would have been perfection.
