So a few of us around the office here have been talking, and we’re not sure if this is a "Who should play him in the movie?" item, or just a simple "Separated at birth?" observation — but you have to admit, there’s quite a resemblance between Sully and Willy. (And yes, we realize we’re not the only ones to notice the similarities. A Google search just now brought up people posting on IMDB and Facebook who made the connection independent of us, just like many of you no doubt — we’re just providing a service!)
Our call: Chesley, you could do a lot worse than have this much-loved Oscar-nominated actor play you in the movie adaptation of the U.S. Airways Hudson River miracle you presided over. And if you’d like to see a quick sample of his work (God knows he’s seen plenty of yours), here’s a clip of him on the short-lived (but excellent) Aaron Sorkin show Sports Night:

awesome show. so glad my friends introduced me to it on dvd, only to be annoyed when i realized it was cancelled. whatever happened to the other news anchor on the show, not peter krause, but his partner on sports night?
Excellent idea – and excellent clip choice! Sports Night is always a good idea.
Why does anyone need to play him? Really we all saw it and heard it on TV. ANd we have a real life hero. Sheesh!!!!
Yes, Macy looks like him, but Keith Carradine has almost the exact same voice.
Actually, I think Sully was channelling William H. Macy from his stint in Air Force One.
Not only have I thought they resemble each other, they have the same voice pattern/accent.
BTW, Sully and Jeff were great on Letterman last night…some nice dry humor to lighten a very heavy topic. The flight attendants were like deer caught in Dave’s headlights.
I think that he was doing his job. True he saved lives but if he left them there he would have been inhuman. Anyway, I think that the guy who played the grandfather in Fargo looks more like Sully even if he’s older.
