Week one of American Idol‘s season 8 Hollywood rounds was decidedly disappointing. Promising singers were booted with little or no explanation. Gimmicky fame-seekers received inordinate amounts of screen time. The show’s producers got off to an early start in choosing medal contenders in their all important Contestant Pimping Olympics. And, worst of all, there wasn’t much in the way of singing going on. But fret not: This week’s episode of Idolatry not only packs in the choicest Hell Week audition clips, but also features cameo appearances from Tarzan and Porky Pig, plus our own Idol-centric tribute to Beyoncé’s "Single Ladies" shuffle. Aye!
We have been saying more singing since it started. But not just more signing, show us some other folks!!! Well now that BG is gone, maybe they will have time for a few others.
good point about this season clearly staying away from musicans who can sing and leaning towards those grand singers. i wonder if that’s also why we haven’t seen scott mactntyre at all during hollywood week. i would have loved to see what challenges may have occured during that group performance. or perhaps it’s because producers are scared ryan will try and high five him again.
what is so infuriating about this season of AI is that after last season it was painfully obvious that the show needed an overhaul. new producers come in and the show has gotten decidedly worse! i just don’t know what the producers are thinking. after paulagate last year, i would think the producers would realize that viewers don’t want to see bias by the show of judges. we want less producer favorites are more good singers and people with a bit of charisma. and to think i found nigel to be a heavy handed producer! i pray it gets better, but i doubt it will until the viewing figures really drop.
Deanna Brown wasn’t really somebody I tagged to go far but to Slezak’s point, it’d be good to see what happened there, since they decided to focus on her early on. Adam Lambert and Lil are totally over-pimped and overrated. Jasmine Murray, Anoop Desai, and Alex Wagner are the three that don’t get on my nerves and can actually sing well. I can’t stand Danny Gorkey and the whole dead-wife story is tacky as hell (whether that’s his fault or the producers, I don’t know and I don’t care). Tatiana and Nathaniel should be locked up in a room to see who comes out alive (my money’s on her)
The dancing montage at the end had me laughing out loud. Thank you for this!
Can you start ending every idolatry with the Nathanial end pose…because that was hysterical. I want him to sing CATS on Broadway night.
OMG-The Tarzan holla…I’m still laffing…
Good lord – it feels like I was waiting forever for Idolatry this week! Ok, so this last episode in Hollywood sucked – I am thrilled the Osmond is gone – I read his blog and he apparently lost his voice on that day – he was in the last 3 groups to perform and by then it was gone – but why couldn’t they show that instead of all the souped up drama – especially Tatiana who apparently makes the Top 35 but who in America will vote for her after all of that nonsense? I know I wont – even if she comes out and sings like JHud on the Grammy’s last night or Fantasia doing, well, anything. The producers have killed her chances. I walked away from the episode thinking there is not a single person on the show thus far that I am interested in except Lil Rounds. Yes she over did that song, but she did it well (better than Lakisha if you ask me) and if she can do that, during an audition and especially THIS audition then I am curious to see where she goes.
The only reason for Tatiana to make it past Hollywood week is for us to vote her off and to face R E A L I T Y… I have to admit that it was a hot mess because I missed people making it through (Stephen) and not (Osmond). I can’t juggle over-the-top drama AND what is actually happening.
Adam Lambert is awesome! Don’t be hating on him just cause he can sing!
The last weeks shows were terrible to much DRAMA! no talent or as a viewer we were not shown any? Idol needs to get it together or get out? I do not like the way the judges are acting? Randy is the best of all so far? Simon seems to have lost his zest or something?
Just wait till the producers put the finalists in a “house” (no mansion this year) and we are treated to shots of them rolling out of bed and fighting for the cameras. We’ll be lucky if there is any singing at all!
LOLLOL! The ending to this video made me double over in laughter, so much that I started choking! I love the whole single ladies’ moves! You made me change my mind about him!
Two heartbreaks for me – Deanna and David Osmond. Seriously. I know there is a wildcard – I would vote to bring back the two of them or trade for Norman and Tat! I actually think they could duo and bring smoke and sweetness!
Stephen Fowler is the best thing to come out of last week.
Michael, I hope the Idol producers are watching because you speak for many of us out here. I have a question – is there any way to know what is coming up in the show – ie, what is going to happen tomorrow on night 3 of Hollywood week in terms of the setup – do the contestants get to play instruments, are they in groups, etc? Or do the producers like to keep everything a mystery? Thanks
