Blink-182 reunite -- to tour with Green Day? No Doubt!

Categories: Grammys, Music

Blink_reunionLooks like Mark, Tom, and Travis have taken a page out of the Obama play book: Less than 12 hours after announcing to the world on the Grammys that they’d be reuniting after four years, Blink-182 already have their 2009 reunion site (pictured) set up. I, for one, am pretty excited. I caught their 2004 co-headlining tour with No Doubt — you kinda forget that Blink-182 was as big as, and sometimes bigger than, Gwen and Co. — which was worth the price of admission alone just for Travis’ extended drum solo atop a riser above the crowd. (Yes, Gwen’s back flips certainly added value, too.)

Their side projects over the years — Tom’s Angels & Airwaves, Mark and Travis’ +44 — demonstrated how talented each is in his own right, but mostly, they just reminded us that we’d rather be seeing and listening to Blink. So, while they didn’t stay together for the kids, they did get back together for them (even if most of the "kids" have mortgages and kids of their own by now).

No Doubt are also reuniting for shows this summer, for the first time since that ‘04 tour with Blink. Rumors have it that Blink will be doing some dates opening for Green Day, which should be great — but for old time’s sake, maybe they could double up with No Doubt again, if for just one?

I saw Blink and Green Day back in 2002 or 2003, the Family Values tour. Let me tell you, Green Day brought it. Blink, not so much – and horror of horrors, Green Day was the opener! *shudder* Although Travis’ drum solo was pretty awesome.
Point being, I’d happily sign up for a tour in which Blink opens for the GRAMMY WINNING Green Day, but not the other way around.

I’m in the same boat as Sara, only I saw Blink and Green Day on their Pop Disaster tour, and Green Day gave the much more memorable performance, rotating drum kit aside.

  • warren

just so you know, Mark and Travis had +44, Tom had Angels and Airwaves. You are the press, get it right please

You have Tom and Mark mixed up. Tom has Angels and Airwaves – Mark and Travis have +44.

  • EC

I’m right there with you Anne & Sara. I also saw Green Day & Blink 182 together on the same tour. Green Day was awesome, Blink 182 was really unimpressive. No desire to see them again.

Wow, when I read the line about the kids having mortgages and kids of their own, I was thinking, “what a bunch of old losers.” Perhaps in my advancing years I forgot that that indeed applies to me.

  • Paul

Warren, read the article again, he did get it right. Read thoroughly before you criticize.

  • caleb

    ya you dumbass

  • Eric244

I don’t want blink opening for anybody. I want them to headline a show worth seeing. Travis Barker> Tre Cool and Tom Delonge > Billy Joe and Mark Hoppus > all of Green Day combined

  • Gretchen Weiners

I saw them from the front row in 2001. I cannot wait for the reunion!

  • Cathaoir

Thats amazing :D blink 182 are amazing, they better come to ireland :D

  • Tim

    blink 182 sucks

  • Adam

Blink should not open for anyone. They need to headline.

  • Brian

i can’t wait for this summer

  • Chris

I am excited for this! I hope both of them play together in Atlanta because they are my top 2 all-time favorite bands!

  • Matt

They just need to play, Green Day and Blink did a tour a while back and it’d be awesome to see them again, especiallly if they took turns headlining, or just give them both the same amount of time, either way it’d be a kick ass show

  • derzerm

I would be very disappointed if Blink-182’s reunion tour involved them opening for anyone. It is their time. The only reason Greenday won a grammy (the biggest joke award since the kid’s choice awards) is because they turned to a pop style of music that would make them money. Blink-182 should headline their own tour…NO DOUBT about it.

  • derek

no doubt might be the worst band i have ever listened to in my life..and if it turns out that if i go to their concert and have to listen to green day or no doubt i might have to kill myself because they both suck. blink 182 is legendary by themselves

  • pthomas

derzerm – I saw Blink 182 on the other tour with green day – and they could not hold a candle to green day. I have been to many many concerts and by far Blink was one of the worse live shows I have EVER seen – after the 3rd songs hordes of people were walking out so it was not just my opinion and the paper ripped them the next day. They were beyond bad – it could have been an off night but I will never pay to see them live again. green day I have seen twice and both times excellent!

your a D and i hope u fall into a pit of torment, blink182 is a million times better than green day hands down

  • Damian

your all a bunch of idiots, green day are washed up sellouts. wake me up when green day are dead. not saying they didnt use to be amazing, but they’ve ruined their fanbase with their pop crap. now they got grandmas and little girls in the pit.

  • Blinker

Pthomas or whatever your name is your a fuckin idiot blink is one of the greatest live bands ever greenday can blow my dick

  • Charles

This would be a great show. But I have to admit that I have really liked the 2 Angels & Airwaves albums. Especially the last one. I think “Rite of Spring” is a wonderfully haunting song. Good luck to all involved, but more Angels & Airwaves CD’s also, please.

YEA BLINK SHOULD TOUR WITH ND!ITD B AWESOME :D

  • bu

    you people are dumb.

  • Jason

Blink 1182 are not an opening act. idiot reporter. I believe Greenday opened for blink on the last tour?

  • someonesmart

green day sucks and is for deadhead emos who are fat and have no damn friends
    BLINK 182 FTW

  • Kev

Yous are all idiots. They are both awesome bands. Im definatly a bigger Blink fan but come on… what more could you ask for than Blink and Green day playing at the same concert no matter who plays first. Im a Blink fanatic but remember Greenday have still been going and cleaned up at the Grammy’s with American idiot so gotta give them the respect they deserve. They should both just play a 2 hour set each and we’ll all be happy :)

  • Kev

P.S. Anyone know where you can get updates of actual tour details taht arent just rumours or anyone know yet whether they’ll do a world tour or just the U.S?

  • Carrie

Blink should tour with Brand New!!
    Id have an orgasm
