I’m pretty sure the audience target for this show is much too young to be seeing TDK. It’s an amazing movie–and you need to be a bit older to understand it as well as enjoy it, I think. I tried to keep my 9-10 year old cousins from seeing it–unsuccessful. And they worship it. But you know, because, oh the Joker laughs funny. I don’t think they can grasp it at such a young age and maturity level.

I think Dark Knight is too mature for a lot of kids, therefore shouldn’t be nominated for a kid’s award show. However there are some kids who are mature for their age who would be able to handle the more thematically dark and intense material.
To the Sarah El, actually Coraline is rated PG, it is based off of one of Neil Gaiman’s children novels. I think you are confusing it with Pan’s Labyrinth, which was rated R but marketed as a family film (which it most definitely is not!)

Oh that is so not right. No kid could possible grasp the meaning behind this film, it’s too heavy for anyone under the age of like 16/17 to grasp. And even then that would have to be one smart kid.
When I did see kids in the theatre, I was always thought back to the first time I saw it. My friends and I came out of the theatre incredibly traumatized and had so much to think about. I can’t even imagine how a 9 year old can process a film like that if it took me (20 year old) a bit to comprehend everything. And even as I watch it on DVD, there’s so much you miss.
For a film that should have been rated R it’s not right to be up for the kids choice awards. I don’t even think Iron Man should.

OK for starters its not that hard to follow if you’ve paid close attention to all of the batman films and not just the new ones but all of the originals too. My brother took my nieces to see it and they enjoyed the action and the basic story line of good guy bad guy, and they’re under 10. For kids its not about seeing everything its about being entertained and i know quite a few kids who grew up watching the old movies with mum and dad and now really appreciate the new versions.
I personally really don’t see the issue, it’s “kids choice” they choose the nominees not Nickelodeon.

  • Nooooooo!

It all depends on the kid. Some parents are brain-dead when it comes to TV and their kids and they just don’t give a @#$%. My 10 yr. old begged to see it so I let him, but only after I’d seen it first. I also told him not to watch the parts I thought were inappropriate. My 6 year old was banned from watching. I’m totally against plunking a kid in front of a TV and walking away. Stupid parenting!
Most of the movies on this list shouldn’t be nominees either. Our youth are being robbed of their innocence.

I find it surprising that there is an article about The Dark Knight, but not one about the nominees for BEST SONG. Almost that whole category is a disturbing mix of too-mature songs. I Kissed A Girl? Are you kidding me? That song is about sex, pure and simple–I can’t wait for the Kidz Bop release of that one (or is it already out!?!).

J and Mel, I swear I’m not being snarky when I ask this, but at 15, do you believe you are the target audience for this show? I remember my niece and nephew being into this when they were in the 8-10-year-old range, but at 13 and 14 they really don’t care anymore. At 15, I’m sure you are mature enough to handle TDK, but it is likely to scare the tar out of a nine-year-old.

Ledger also admitted he had such trouble sleeping while shooting the film he resorted to taking the prescription drug Ambien.
