The Recording Academy announced yesterday that British/Sri Lankan raptress M.I.A., whose ’08 anthem "Paper Planes" is up for Record of the Year, will be performing at this Sunday’s ceremony. She may, however, want to bring along a few clean blankets, sanitized water, and an EMT: Her first child is due that same day. The competition in M.I.A.’s category is stiff (and, coincidentally, almost entirely British as well) — Coldplay, Leona Lewis, Adele, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. If she fails to nab the little golden grammaphone, however, she’s still got a pretty sweet consolation prize coming. Don’t you agree?
Even if she loses at the Grammys she will still have her beautiful baby and can then win Best Original Song at the Oscars for “O Saya” instead.

Am I the only one who is disgusted that she performed live at the grammys? no i do not think being pregnant is disgusting and i don’t think women should just stay in bed all day. i’m saying she is far too late in her term to be performing live at the grammys! i mean seriously, what if her water broke on stage, or she had injured herself. she was bouncing around and people get a little intense and crazy on stage. i’m just saying she should not have perfomed. she is beyond ignorant. well i guess she can tell her kid a interesting story.

M.I.A sucks, she only has one song on her album that is worth listening too. and yes i have actually listened to her whole album. besides paper planes is not even that good, it’s catchy but nothing special. the gun shots and cash register are annoying after a while. she thinks she is some great ghetto rapper, HA! she is a joke. rap is a joke actually. there is so much crap on the radio these days and no i’m not some bitter 60 year old woman. i just have good taste in music.
Hold on a minute. Now if you asked me three years ago I’d agree with this M.I.A. banter. But I have come to realize that I can’t hate on someone who wasn’t some lucky kid getting famous off the hands of mainstream industries, like many radio artists. Even though I don’t find much enjoyment from her music…at all, I still gotta respect her for her artistic ability. I saw her perform at sasquatch and I gotta say she has a very unique style to her, but she makes crowds flip. And to insinuate that all rap is bad is an ignorant statement. Yes I would agree that basically all rap played on air is foul and untalented, but Im pretty sure we all have access to obtain any type of music at the tip of your fingers. Listen to good hip hop like de la soul or a tribe called quest, and you’ll might reconsider your assumptions.
