Johnny Depp narrating Doors documentary?

Categories: Film, Music, Rumor Control

Johnnydepp_lHey, they’re making a movie about the Doors with a soulful rebel-type actor who was born about 40-plus years ago! No, not that one. I’m talking about When You’re Strange, the upcoming Doors documentary that Johnny Depp is reportedly going to narrate. Now, it arguably would have been way cooler if Val Kilmer had reprised his famous Jim Morrison portrayal as this movie’s narrator — but old Val is rumored to be contemplating a run for governor of NewMexico, so you’ve gotta assume he was just too busy. Oh well. Anyway, as someone who’s honestly never been the world’s biggest Doors fan but does think Johnny Depp is a very hip guy, I’m somewhat more interested in seeing this documentary now. How about you? Does this make you more or less likely to seek out When You’re Strange?

Way too cool…Johnny Depp narrating a Doors
documentary is so cool. Johnny has a very good narrative voice and I can’t wait to see this when it comes out. Go, Johnny, go! I have been a fan of The Doors since “Light My Fire” days. Jim Morrison had the most charisma ever as a front man for one of the coolest bands of the ’60’s. I still cry when I hear the final record they did…
“Riders On The Storm.” Morrison was a shaman from another time and a damn good poet!! I love Oliver Stone’s movie “The Doors,” and Val Kilmer did an excellent job channeling Mr. Mojo Rising. Good luck to Val if he decides to run for governor of New Mexico. Love alway to Mr. Johnny Depp. And Jim, may your spirit always with us!!

Considering the limited time that The Doors actually played together, they’re story is incredibly compelling, especially, and unfortunately, due to Jim Morrison’s exploits late in his life. I can’t wait to see it, and I’m thrilled about Johnny Depp. He has an awesome voice, and I know he’s very interested in music, so I think he’ll give it the effort and attention it deserves. And, to top it off, he’s really hip. Beat that with a stick, I dare you!

I’ve been excited about this documentary since I first heard about it, but this definitely puts it at the top of my list. I went through a major Doors phase in high school and I’ve been a sucker for them ever since. Not to mention the fact that “When You’re Strange” is my favourite of their songs. I’ll be buying tickets opening weekend.

I am so glad a big name like Johnny is going to do this. I hope this is true and not just a rumor. All you Doors fans out there come and join us over at the Doors message boards. It gives you a great Doors education and the interactions get real interesting at times.

While I could listen to Johnny Depp all day, it’s not enough to induce me to see this, because I absolutely loathe the Doors.

Johnny Depp is a great narrator. I just watched a wonderful documentary about Hunter S. Thompson that was narrated by Mr Depp and he did an excellent job!

they should have gotten Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, or John Densmore, or even Danny Sugerman but its not about the narrator its what he’s narrating

Alright I am only 21 but I am the BIGGEST door’s fan.. from music, books, jim’s poems, movies, anything to do with the door’s I gotta have. I even got a tat on my ribs of the door’s logo and I LOVED Val Kilmer in “The Doors Movie” he did an awesome job playing the one and only Jim Morrison.. Johnny Depp one the other hand, I can’t say I am not a fan of Johnny’s. He killed it in “Blow” narrated that movie aswell did an AWESOME job, in my opinion, but yeah it would have been cool if Robby, Ray, or John could have done it, but regardless I think its going to rock and I can’t wait!

I feel this documentary has encapsulated the doors material in genuinely authentic and distinctive light, with the director polishing up some old unseen film footage of the doors that would have pleased old fans and fascinated a new generation of intrigued Morrison disciples. However, I guessing the footage was probably never meant to see the light of day, hence, no sign of this material in 40 years.
The film has come off as little more than a DVD supplement, and infers “Doors101 for Dummies”, which in turn, only gives me more respect for the research Oliver Stone acquired for his 1991 doors film biopic.
